USA format game in NTSC U mode play in black and white

hey all, i am trying to play a USA game in NTSC U mode with the X3. The game plays fine, but the picture is in black and white.

I am assuming this is due to my TV, but could there be another reason, or way around it?

You using the standard AV cables, or are you using S-video or component video cables? If so, what is the manufacturer of said cables?

This might not be it but when I was using my component cables my Xbox was switching from 1080i to 840p to play a game and my Xbox locked up. That corrupted my EEPROM settings for the video. I couldn't see anything so I switched back to the original AV cables and the video was crappy quality black and white. I used the Enigmah Video Mode Select CD to rewrite my video settings and it brought everything back to life.

Probably not that problem with yours but I thought I'd tell the story just in case.

I am just curious, did you change the video settings to NTSC just so you could play a NTSC game ? With the X3 enabled, you don't need to change the video settings to play a NTSC game as far as I know . It seems your TV is not multi system and only supports PAL, which would explain the B&W when the trying to display NTSC.

Because the Xbox wouldn't even boot up into the mod chip. It was extremely messed up. I could boot the Xbox with the chip disabled but then it would just take me to an MS error code screen. I was told it was something how the X3 loads after the EEPROM. If I had a SmartXX chip they said I'd be able to fix it but since I have the X3 (which I think is better anyway) the EEPROM was erroring out before I could get into X3 Config Live.

yerh, in my case it was down to changing the region setting to NTSC U. i didnt realise USA format games could be played without changing the setting. found that out the next time i tried to play, but thx very much for your response!!

yep, ntsc doesn't play on pal... vise versa. hence the reason of getting a modchip in the first place. Also, having a cool plasma tv helps too... :lol:

360 Freezing randomly after red ring fix

okay i've been trying to fix my brother's 360 for so long and have been constantly failing. after fixing his red lights the xbox just keeps freezing at random spots. i test for freezes by leaving the 360 on and in about 5-10minutes it freezes. how would i go about fixing this?

p.s im using the latest benq lt plus
