USB ports

Are USB ports only usable with linux? If I was to add usb ports to my xbox, could I use my 256mb USB2 stick (FAT format) to add files to my (non-linux) xbox?

I'm pretty sure you can use mouse and keyboard with dashboards and to surf the web.
