So I have TX custom PCB in my slim lite-on 0401, but I still have the original PCB for the drive except all the wires are cut.

I just wanted to save some time.. but could i just pop the cut PCB into the xbox and flash. Or will the xbox error out because the PCB isn't connected..

A conclusive answer would be nice....instead of c'mon now

Obviously I wouldn't be asking if i didn't have the original PCB. I just don't see the point in having 2 stock firmwares.

Based on your highly inconclusive answer, I'm guessing no one has done this before.....

Best to flash to stock firmware. The TX PCB can update just fine.

In the case of a spelling error, I blame Tapatalk.

If you didn't connect up the original PCB to the drive wires, I believe the xbox would act as if the drive was open. I don't think that would cause issues

Thanks

So this theoretically should work....

I've been searching around looking for a similar situation but haven't find anything yet. I have found some posts where c4eva claimed it's safe to update the dash with slim locked drives, but there are conflicting reports of this all over.

Have been doing that for the last 3 dash updates. Hook original PCB up, update dash, hook TX PCB drive back up and all has been fine. I know some say that I may be lazy, but just confirming that it does work. Just make sure the original is on the latest locked firmware.

Are you hooking up just the power/SATA. What about the 3 ribbon cables ? joesinger47 said the xbox will see it as tray open is this the case ?

I'm not doubting this won't work, I'm concerned about this being LIVE safe/flagging. http://team-xecuter.com/forums/member.php?u=182103

Just hooking up the power and sata to the motherboard. Have been on live until recently. Just had the console RGH'ed. I know XVal is said not to be reliable, but it says secdata is clean. I would rely on the advice of the more knowledgable people on the forum. I am just telling what I have been doing. I know that it doesn't show the drive as being open on the dashboard if that helps.

I just did mine the other day. I hooked up my original without the wires and it acted like it was opening so to be safe I just flashed the unlocked pcb instead of taking apart the drive and resoldering the wires. Takes likes 5 min tops to flash the correct stock firmware. If I was you I would just flash it real fast and update then flash it back. It is definitely worth the time then it would be if got banned for something silly but hey I would just see it as an rgh console and buy another one lol

Connecting power and sata is sufficient. Bridge yellow and green wire to get tray detected as closed.
You mean tape them together.....? I don't have a soldering machine. Won't this short circuit the PCB?

No the wires have no power and taping them together would do nothing. He is saying solder the 2 points on the original pcb together and it will show as closed. That sounds way easier than reflashing then. After you bridge it once you could update it everytime like that and if you want it back for use just throw some solder wick on there.

This is good progress as this is what my whole post is about except I don't have soldering equipment....

Does the drive have to be closed to flash ?

Actually the wires should have power... how is taping the two wires together any different than soldering the two points. That's essentially the same thing no ??

No because the wires that lead to the different drive motors get there power from the pcb so twisting them together would do nothing. I don't know if the drive has to be closed or not but to be safe it is best if it is closed or appears to be. You only need a cheap soldering iron and some solder or I'm sure you could fine someone in your area who has one.

I think Microsoft doesn't care if the drive is open or closed. There must be many legit users with broken drive trays, and I don't see Microsoft banning them for a broken piece of hardware.

What's the difference between soldering the points together vs connecting the wires.... as long as they contact. Unless we're talking about something completely different.
Nothing

Just make sure red and black wire doesnt touch anything, as it may shorten your 12V line.
Its always best to remove the wires and solder bridge between tray in and mgnd.

Oh yes you can just twist the wires together like that. I thought the you had the wires desoldered from the pcb and you were trying to connect them together without one end being hooked up to the pcb. Just strip the two wires as mentioned and twist them together. Wrap some electrical tape around it, and update. You should solder but since it's just for updates you'll be fine.
