I wanted to share some of the knowledge I have learned about JTAGing. I just got a Coolrunner about 3 days and this was my first Xbox that I attempted to JTAG. So basically this is a list of problems I ran into and there solutions.

Question: What do I do after I install Coolrunner?

Answer: Fortunaly there is an excellent tutorial out that explains how to do this and worked perfectly for me.

Following DARKFiB3R's guide will get you up and running with a glitched dashboard and dashlaunch installed.

Question: What dashboard do I use?

Answer: Personally my favorite is FreeStyle Dash v2.2. but starting off you’re going to want to install XEXMenu v1.1 ISO version.
At this point you should have XEXMenu installed. XEXMenu is a dashboard so technically you can do everything in XEXMenu that you can do on FSD. I like to think of it as XEXMenu is Linux and FSD is Windows.

Question: How do I install stuff to my Xbox?

Answer: At this point by having an alternate dashboard installed this gives you the ability to transfer programs to and from the Xbox via USB or FTP by just having them open. By accessing the file managers in either xexmenu or FSD you can transfer your homebrew/games/XBLA content to and from.

Question: How do I work FSD file manager?

Answer: If you look at the bottom you get a legend for each of the buttons. If you hold RB or LB you will see arrows showing what why the files will go if you copy and paste. Example: if I want to delete a file from the left box I hold LB and hit B.

Question: Why can't I see the emulators or XBLA content I transferred to my hard drive?

Answer: You must first setup your game path in in FSD. To do this you go to Setup -> Settings -> Content Settings -> Manage Game Paths. Now this part was a little confusing to me at first. What you’re going to want to do is increase the scan depth to about 5. You can leave Retail and Devkit on Automatic. Click Change Path and select the directory you are going to be using as your root path. Now highlight Hdd1: (if your using internal hard drive to store all your content) and Press A to open the Hdd1: directory then Press Y to select the directory then Press X to save the changes. Now go to Scan Settings right above Manage Game Paths and select Start Manual Scan. You should now see your content on your hard drive. ** Note** FSD does not use fsd2settings.xml anymore so you can disregard any tutorials involving that.

Question: What are the different file types?

Answer: G0D files are going to be XBL content and that will always go in your content/00000000000 folder. Xex are the main xbox executable and you can load those just by clicking on them in either xexmenu's or FSDs file managers. ISO files will be your xbox 360 games and you can either use ISO2GOD to convert them to games on demand or extract them with Xbox Image Browser to extract it to a folder and copy that folder to your xbox then run the default.xex for the game from any file manager.

Question: What is dashlaunch?

Answer: Dashlaunch is just what it sounds like, a launcher for your dashboards. Dashlaunchs main file is Launch.ini. If you do not have a launch.ini you can make one by opening notepad then entering something that looks like this:

[QuickLaunchButtons]
BUT_X = Hdd:\Content\0000000000000000\C0DE9999\00080000\C0DE99990F586558
Default = Hdd:\Freestyle\default.xex
BUT_A =
[Settings]
nxemini = true
pingpatch = true
liveblock = true
livestrong = false

Hit file Save As -> Launch.ini (remove the .txt) then transfer that to the root of your drive (Hdd1:\Launch.ini in my case). What this will do is load Freestyle by default unless I press X which will load to XeXmenu. You will have dashlaunch already installed if you followed DARKFiB3R's tut.

Question: How do I get back to NXE?

Answer: If you load up Xexmenu you can access the Flash: partition and simple press A on default.xex. Note: FSD does not allow access to Flash: from its file manager by default, this can be enabled in settings.

So that’s pretty much it.

Not sure that you want xexmenu anymore. It hasn't been updated since I tarted with Jtags several years ago and offers no more functionality than FSD 2.2. I never use it in any install anymore and don't miss it whatsoever.

Access to Nxe from FSD can be as easy as holding RB while restarting the console
