Hello just want to confirm. Has there anyone been successful in updating the firmware using a Mac?

For the Switch FW you would use ChoijudourNX directly on the Switch. You can follow this guide. As for SX I recommend copying the files with Windows as the mac os adds archive bits to the files and will cause issues.
