Using Different DVD Roms

I currently have the xecuter 2.6 on a 1.0 with a 40gb seagate. My question is, the xbox came with a Thompson DVD Rom, But I have a newer Samsung DVD Rom that I would like to use. When I put the Samsung in, it will boot to EvoX, but will not play anything that's in the tray. Is there some way around that. Any help will be greatly appreciated

I'm sorry, I should be more specific. The Samsung Drive that I have is out of another xbox. The Thompson Drive is a 2002 model, and the Samsung Drive is 2004. I used Config Magic, and hot swapped the dvd roms, and it doesn't recognize it. Is it even a possibility that this dvd rom will work. I know for a fact that the Samsung works, because I got it from my previous modded xbox. Am I doing something wrong??? Thanks in advance
