Hi guys,

Have RGH'd a slim, all booting fine, FSD installed etc and all is well. I bought the motherboard missing it's dvd drive for cheap, seller included the Dummy, key etc, and I verified that the key was correct from Xell.

Want to use one of the many Phat Liteons I have laying around spare, so after some reading I loaded up stock firmware, manually loaded the dvd key, flashed to LT 3.0 and wrote the firmware.

However, still getting "Please insert into an Xbox 360" message, even with the originals. I did a search and found some threads here that suggested using BestPig to build the freeboot image instead of multibuilder 0.7, so gave that a try, but the same results.

Out of ideas now, if I was keeping it I would leave the dvd drive out or just have it there for display purposes but I got a guy who wants to buy it off me and he wants a working dvd drive present, add to the fact that I don't like having something not working without knowing an answer.

Any suggestiong?

Cheers,

Ok just checked the multibuilder log and it seems FCRT.BIN is being included, it's my understanding this would be the cause of the problem, so this needs to be removed - how to do this? Or is this what the BesPig application is supposed to do? Can't find a log for the BestPig build, not sure if it produces one.,....

Yeah seems that the solution was to have someone build a nandflash.bin that had extracted the FCRT.bin file from it, I figured that much form reading around yesterday, quite how they are doing that though escapes me at the moment, had another look at multibuilder 0.7 this morning and can't see any option to patch it out. The search continues.

Ahhh nevermind just re read the link you posted, seems I need to get ahold of Xebuild and play around with that, will try this later and report back, even if it does fix the issue, it was my understanding that multibuilder is already supposed to do this by default, so wonder why it isnt?

XeBuild has an option for this:

- NOMU and NOFCRT patches are provided as optional patches, please use the
-a flag on the command line (ie: -a nomu and/or -a nofcrt) if you want
to use them, nomu disables jasper NAND memory unit, nofcrt will attempt
to disable FCRT file (not needed if yours isn't corrupt)

Try XeBuild GUI 1.1 (think it's on logicsunrise's website).

Do you have install pics of the Phat Lite-On in a Slim?
Not yet, wanted to make sure the drive was working before I set about it, kind of starting to regret it now though as the phat drive seems to need to be butchered quite severely in order to get it to fit, I feel with my lack of patience in this department it won't be pretty, but it will be functional and aesthetically pleasing from the outside once the case is back together.

I think the OP maybe missed this the first time around....!
I don't quite follow? I seem to remember reading in one of the multibuilder changelogs that the FCRT.bin extraction had been incorporated into multibuilder for trinity NANDs, hence why I expected it to work from the get go, although I bear in mind that this is my first Slim RGH after about 10-15 phats, so not altogether familiar with the finer points of Slim RGH's just yet.

It's your lack of understanding. Yes, FCRT.BIN extraction has been handled for a while, however with this file in place, the console will be looking for the paired DVD drive.

You want to use a non-slim drive so you DON'T want FCRT.BIN to be used from the stock NAND and instead need the NOFCRT patch applied.
