A wires install should only really be used for those who have the LPC holes filled in with solder (v1.0).
Does this mean that the wire install is recommended or required for a v1.0 xbox or can I still install via the pin header?

I have a v1.6b xbox that I chipped for myself and loved the pin header install and hoping I can do the same again.....

V1.0 box is much easier to do with the wire install, if you open it up you will know what we are talking about. Its not required but is highly recommended. Its pretty easy to lift the LPC traces if your not experienced with the soldering iron.

I bought the XAPT3R for my version 1.0 xbox but once I got into it I foun it was 100% easier to do the wire install since all you have yo do is heat the solder up and stick the proper wire in its alot esier than de-soldering and the resoldering the pin header! the D0 is still a bitch but take your time and be careful! I just trimmed the D0(grey) wire to about 1/16" and tinned it and stuck it on the D0 point and heated it for about 2 seconds and it held! Best of luck

you can do a header install if you get some soldering wick and remove the solder from the holes, but I do not recommend this if your have never desolder something before.

desoldering then doing a pin header install is a lot easier
True. Anyone who claims otherwise is too afraid of desoldering

The desoldering you have to do is really as simple as it gets. A solder sucker is better for this job than desoldering braid.

And the pinheader install will be much more secure

Thanks for the replies kind sirs. Good to see you reddsimpson!

I wanted to do the pin header install because I also think it is more stable and secure and it is what i know from my 1 and only modchip I have done so far. It appears that alot think that the wire install would be the way to go for a v1.0 xbox. Decisions decisions.... :D

More Battlefield 3 Footage Captured On Shakycam

If you're jonesing to see more of DICE's next, super-pretty shooter Battlefield 3, you should strike while the iron's hot -- by which we mean "before the iron gets pulled from YouTube." Check out some shakycam footage from the developer's GDC presentation posted after the jump.
