v1.0 X3 bios Problems

First, I have to thank the X3 team for a great product... I have modded 2 xboxs (v1.4 and 1.6) with absolutely no problems to speak of... Great work guys!

Now to my current problem...I am helping a buddy of mine install a X3 into a v1.0 Xbox (solder in the LPC Holes). Everything, went as smooth as glass for the install... used a solder wick (copper strip) to remove the solder from the holes, then I soldered the LPC in place. Afterwards, I soldered the 3 remaining point and put the xbox back together.

Then I upped the 1959 bios into the chip via html link (FlashBios 3.0.1) and rebooted. The xbox restarted with the same symptoms as the LPC 13/14 solder issue (no audio/video with green light).

So, I resoldered several times, checked the connectivity through all the solder points (all fine), and placed the questionableX3 chip into my modded box (which it worked perfectly)... I am now running out of options. I am about to remove the LPC and do a wire install.

Is there an additional solder point required for v1.0 that I am missing??? I am at a loss and any help would be most appreciated!

(Also... only M$ video connection (rca cables) and controller used)

Big Thanks,
-Deigo

Well... it is 1am and I have work in 8.. thus I must hit the hay.

Tomorrow, I am planning giving the soldering one last attempt on the LPC before I resort to the wire install. In the mean time, please post any suggestions.

Thanks!

I am not an expert on electronics but these guys are right. CHECK YOUR SOLDERING!!! I was doing the quickie troubleshoot, halfassing it like everyone else. Finally I took the time to completely revisit my work. I wicked all excess solder from both sides of the pin header. You have to very delicately pull up the black plastic to do this but it was worth it since most of my solder "Splash" was on that side. I also soldered the pins from that side also (Ones which needed it). I then thoroughly cleaned the board on BOTH sides using alcohol and Q-Tips and a non static brush to get all that Flux off. Then I patiently waited for the board to dry completely and the surface and solder looked completely clean and shiny before I hooked it up. BINGO!!! I am a happy X3 junky. (I blew one of those really tiny resistors because I was impatient the first time I cleaned the board and connected it up wet. A real challenge to do but I enjoyed the learning experience and I was lucky the whole board did not burn up like my buddy's).

Things you will need that no one has mentioned:

Magnifying Glass - Use this to check the quality of your work. You will be surprised!!
Micro Soldering Tip - Makes such a difference (Expensive).

READ THE TECH TIPS BEFORE YOU BEGIN and KNOW THAT IF IT DOES NOT WORK 99% CHANCE YOUR SOLDERING IS BAD!!!!

Flossie13... I very much appreciate your advice.

Now that you mention it.. I didn't clean BOTH sides of the LPC!!! I bet some of the v1.0 LPC solder (couldn't get all of it) leaked on the other side

Tomorrow, I am going to buy a new soldering tip because my current one is rather dull... it has worked for the last two, but I think it is about time for a new one so I can ensure I do this right.

Also, there is alot of flux around the back so that might be my problem. I'll be sure to clean with some alcohol and WAIT (much thanks for stressing this item)

Thanks again!

what does this mean on ABGX.net...[Unofficial DB Name]...??

so i was looking around ABGX at the verified section and saw that the new Transformers: War for Cybertron and Green Day: Rock Band both had this writeten after the name of the game .....[Unofficial DB Name].......

So um very confused, does anybody know what it is?

Are those SSv files of the games that have that writing good to use for backups or not?

those games were leaked onto the internet before the official release date, now that they have been put on the shelves the name has been confirmed. At least that would be my guess.

Exactly what MrPete said they put that just incase the name is changed at last minute or any alterations are made. :)
