i am trying to install a X3 in my v1.0 xbox so i can flash flashBIOS 3.03 to it so that i can then install it in my buddys 1.6b box.

The only thing i can find that is wrong with the chip is that it is not getting the 3.3v power from pin 15 or pin 9, i tryed both, i tryed connecting both together, and various other ways of connecting but i just cant get it to work.

is this a known problem and i am just missing the answer on here? or is there any other place i could try to pull that 3.3v form?

any help is appreciated. thanks

Try this,

1. Remove HD & DVD drive

2. Plug power cable in the box

3. Start the box

4. Use your finger on LPC pin header(press gently the X3 chip down)

See if second LED lights up when you do this.

I would have gone over the soldering, if you have a multimeter measure volt on pin 15 and 9 on LPC.

according to getting 3.3v from somewhere else, pin 1, 2 & 11 on the ATX power connector has +3.3v.

brown? hmm, ok the standard says +3.3v should be orange.

did you measure it before you solder it?

It would be very wise to do some measuring before you do something like finding and using alternate voltage sources!

according what you did, solder out all the wires and check if the damn box works.

I see the mistake in even mentioning the alternate voltage.

should not have been nessesary to use it.

ok so i took the chip right out and hardwired it all back in. direct wires from under the mother board to the top of the mod-chip.... still no 3.3v.... wth is wrong?

edit: yes the box works fine without the chip in, it also works fine when i install my chamelion in there... this chip just wont work.

good

actually it should be easier to install X3 on v1.0-1.5 than on v1.6.

but it seem like we are having a bad time here.

I'm getting out of options here, :(

I would have got hold on a multimeter if i were you, and do some measuring while the chip were not mounted. check how big your voltage on pin 15 and 9 is without the chip. measure between pins and ground.

using flux during reflow?

Ok i was looking at RRod xboxs on ebay and saw a lot of people selling no clean flux they said it is used for reflowing an xbox or ps3.

All the tutorials I have seen do not mention flux, I was wondering if this will improve your chances of fixing the console and if there is a good tutorial on how to do it, I looked at bravehearts and it did not mention flux.

Re: using flux during reflow?

all 3 of my box's are xenon's and have had the rrod, i've just used a heatgun to fix them with flux, i just use a flux pen, or you can use a syringe and put the flux along the top of the gpu and keep adding a little bit and tilting the board around until you see it coming out each side of the gpu, then i use the heatgun on it, 1 of my box's has been going for about 6 months, another for 3 and the other for about 2 so far, I do also use the new style gpu heatsink on mine though

Re: using flux during reflow?

Your dont need to douse in flux just put enogh to make sure it is coming out all 4 sides of the gpu by rotating the board. Then heat like reguarly and that should be good to go. Though, I recommend using an actual hot air rework station because that is will do the fix right. People get these things wrong. Doing type of repairs like x clamp heat gunning towel trick is a temporary trick. It is like putting a band aid on a bike tire to fix the hole. It may work, but question is how long. Fork over some cash and get an aoyue rework statin. Can get for like 110 bucks.
