v1.6, green light but no video out

Hi there,

I've done several xboxes now but granted, this is my first 1.6. Problem is when I enable the modchip I get the usual green normal light on the front but no video out. If I leave it for about thirty seconds the light turns amber. The dvd drive will not eject at all.
I can boot with the mod dissabled with no trouble, but no joy once I enable it. I'm just looking at blackness.

As I said it's a v1.6, an xecuter 3, used the pin header and the LPC rebuild but as it didn't work I tried removing the LPC rebuild and using wires. Same thing happens.
I've tried unclipping everything and trying a second chip but again, the same thing happens.

I've fragged a couple before but managed to fix them based on what I've read here and just checking, double checking and tripple checking my soldering. I normally get there in the end, but this one is a problem I've not seen before and I wondered if anyone's got any tips?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if the answer's right infront of me; I have spent a good while looking here for a post with similar symptoms but no joy.

It's a 1.6b and the chip has been preflashed with cromwell 3.03 so that should be fine right?

i seen a post that some of the x3's only have 3.03 on one of the banks and that the rest have the older bio's i would check differnt banks on the chip, i cant remeber the switch setting they said were flashed with the new bio's.

Okay, I went through the other banks and found cromwell 3.03 on bank off, off,on,on. Tried flashing it there and it got so far through the flash and halted. Frags there now. I've scanned through the banks again and found cromwell 3.03 on another bank, on,off,on,on. Scared to flash there though before I get any advice from here incase I get the same problem. This may be my last chance with this chip.

could it be that it's tried to flash a 1mb bios into a space that the switches say isn't 1mb? if so then how would it have been flashed that way in the factory? Perhaps it was incorectly flashed there?

It WAS supposed to have cromwell 3.01 in one of the banks too, but I've gone through all the switch settings and still not found that

Now I'm just getting flashing amber, even with the mod dissabled. I must have tugged on one of the wires too hard while playing around inserting and removing the chip. I'll check and resolder the connections tomorrow cause it's just gone 2am and I have work tomorrow. *sigh*

Okay, I've gone through and checked the soldering. the problem was obvious when I took the board out. One of the pins on the lpc had come loose. Soldered that back and (touch wood) it looks like things are okay for now. I'm almost done. One last question though:

Every chip I've ever had before has been flashed with cromwell in a way that I didn't have to do anything with the dip switches to flash it. I just powered it up, got cromwell, flashed with whichever x3 bios was the latest at the time, booted into x3 live config with no problems. This one however frags when I have the switches set to anything but on,off,on,on. When they are set on,off,on,on I get cromwell 3.03. Might seem like a bit of a newb question but it's something I've never encountered before. If I boot to cromwell, then set the switches to off,on,off, off before flashing will it flash the 1mb bank or will it still flash the bank it used to boot from? If I somehow screw this up I'll not get another chance will I since I've messed up flashing this chip once already? If I flash it with the switches set the way they are for me to boot with cromwell I'll have one dead chip?

Thanks so much for the help this far! It's been really useful

load your banks: on off on on to load cromwell 3.03

once that is loaded, change the switch to on on off off without turning the xbox off

then proceed with the X3 bios flash

We will probably get banned around the November time, like the past few years. And when it does happen (which it most probably will) please don't moan about it, you knew the risk when you flashed your drive. ;)
