Hello all. I decided to give the X3 a try after reading all the rave reviews of the product. This is my first xbox mod. After opening up my v1.6 xbox, reading the installation guide many, many times, and practicing my soldering technique for a while, it was time to get started. After about 30 minutes of really taking my time, then checking all solder points several times - I was done with the soldering portion of the install. Or so I thought... I installed the motherboard back into the case, connected the X3 and all wires to the board, crossed my fingers and quickly tapped the power button. The system fan never spun up, and a blue light flashed for about 1 second on the front of the X3. Pushing any combination of the power or eject buttons yielded the same result. I figured that the problem could therefore be narrowed down to my solder points. I removed the board and felt reassured to see that the LAD1 wire was not soldered down...until I inspected closer and noticed that the tiny metal point on the board itself was attached to the tip of the yellow wire and was no longer fixed to the board. I was worried, but figured that this could be repaired simply enough with a circuit writer pen. I searched the forums, found a method posted by BLUEku for repairing a broken trace, and applied that method to my particular situation. Unfortunately that did not work, after several attempts. The good news is that nothing is fried, as I can still boot normally into the M$ dash. But I now fear that If i tamper any more with this part of the board that something will get fried and i'll be out the cost of another new xbox, or atleast the cost of another motherboard. So my question is, can anyone recommend a fix? Is there another location that I could solder to for the LAD1 (such as the front side of the board possibly??) ANY and ALL suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Did you flash the drive yourself to start with? If so, try a different sata port or sata cable. Little things like that can make a difference. Is the drive recognized at all? I know you said jf doesn't read it anymore, but reading the firmware on the drive and detecting the drive in the first place are two completely different things.

i hook other drives to the same sata port and they read fine all the time, the first thing i checked was if it was the port so i hooked another one up to test it and it was fine... at some point i got JF to read "drive is Benq" but thats it, i couldnt unlock, no intro, nothing... it even said there was no drives attached

If you still have your original firmware .bin file, you may want to consider grabbing a new/used drive off of eBay and flashing it. Luckily you have/had a BenQ, as they're generally cheap, and no spoofing need be involved.

Before buying a new drive, try and get the benq reconized in j/f. Then before selecting intro/device id, make sure the drive is half open.

Dont use benq unlock just use intro /read then off/on should dump after. Benq does not require half open tray!

Read the j/f tutorial. If the benq is flashed with ix1.61 like it says in the first post, then tray must be half open.

Re: Benq acting wierd with JF

you need to send device intro to the drive as its flashed already (nolonger stock drive).
hook up the drive as normal sata plugged in etc but with the power to the drive off now send intro to the drive wait for the dots to appear on screen ...............now power the drive on.
you should now get a status 0x72 or 0x73 if so you can now flash the drive again
