v1.6b w/ X3ce - Installation woes.

Hello all,

I generally like to figure things out on my own, but this one has me stumped. I've looked through 15 pages of this forum already, and was unable to find an answer to my question. Also, this is not my first X3 install, but it is my first X3 install on a 1.6b(have done other 1.6/1.6b installs though).

I installed a X3ce in a v.16b xbox, using the LPC rebuild kit and a pin-header. Everything looks kosher, even went back and redid some of the points.

When I reassemble the xbox, and plug it in, it automatically turns on and boots directly to the msdash. Now, even with the modchip out, it boots directly to the msdash.

Both the 5v and 3.3v lights on the modchip are blue, but the external switch is red.

I don't have the option to just tap the power button because like I said before, as soon as i plug the power in, it automatically turns on.

Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I think I should mention the reason I believe it is automatically turning on when the power is plugged in is because I the Reset/Eject adapter is still hooked up.

update:

I thought maybe the LPC Rebuild PCB wasn't connecting correctly to all the points, so I desoldered it, along with the pin header, and did the wire install as well.

Same issue. Plug the xbox in, automatically turns on with both LED's on the X3 blue, but the logo on the external switch red. Can't trn it off unless you unplug it, and repeat.

i used this image as reference for the wire install...

http://home.comcast.net/~x3guide/Images/x3_wire_v16.jpg

along with point 3, i ran the alt 5v there as well, as was prescribed via the x3 n00b guide on the main page of teamxecuter.com

just trying to give as much info as possible.

Have you checked the back of the Eject/reset board? It seems that some of them have two solder points accidentally bridged.

Just my 2 cents.. ;)

I had the same problem....2 blue leds on the chip lit up, but red xecuter light on the external switch. When I booted up it went into the MS bios as if the chip was disabled. I read somewhere that you have to prepare the D0 point because MS has lacquered the D0 point. Try this link: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/preparing-d0.php

After I desoldered and scratched up the D0 point on the underside of my motherboard I got a FRAG...which meant that I was getting D0 contact, but had a bad solder somewhere else on the LPC rebuild board. It turned out that I completely forgot to solder a point on the LPC rebuild board to the motherboard. Once I soldered that point, everything worked perfectly. So, I truely think that you have to prepare the D0 point by removing the lacquer plastic that covers the D0 pad, otherwise you're just soldering onto plastic....which won't conduct.

Hope this helps.

it was most definitely the two points bridged behind the reset/eject panel.

thanks for all your help.
