Hi, I am very new to this and I just wanted to know what is the banks (bios) for? How does it effect the X3?

Each bank on the X3 can be flashed with a different BIOS.
For a normal user though, you'll only ever want to flash one bank - i.e your working bank. For now (saving you even more things to think about), get yourself the newest X3 BIOS flashed to Bank 1234 1MB.
