I have flashed many phat drives with my sata card. I want to update my firmware on my slim which currently has 1.9 to 1.92. I have a pre-bought slim with a tx unlocked pcb (lt1.9). I understand that not all sata cards are compatible and that x360usb is the best option. Unfortunately I only have my sata for now. In the event that my sata isnt compatible, will my xbox still work? I need to test to see if the slim drive will successful get flashed but dont wanna risk the drive being unusable after?

It is well documented that Slim Lite-on drives only work with a select few compatible chipsets and therefore TX recommend the X360USB Pro for these particular drives.

Whilst your VIA/Chipset will read the FW very few will actually Write to them :)

You can try to read it (retrieve dummy.bin) but as stated above I doubt it will write to it unless you are one of they very lucky few :)

If it does read the key and fails to write then will i retain my current firmware or will i be in limbo?

The JF programme does 'Delete' before it 'Writes' so I would say YES you will lose the current CFW/OFW :(

I have used the X360USB Pro since it's release and never had this kind of problem

However someone else who has experienced this may be able to verify my first statement :(

If you ever watched when you flashed any of the phats in JF it literally says "Erasing" before "Writing"

If you read exactly what I posted you would know that I was being a tad sarcastic :rolleyes2:

Of course if you 'Erase' your drive it will, by definition, be 'Erased (see empty)'....

Yes exactly because it erases then tries to write and freezes leaving you with a dead drive until you get the correct equipment

Don't get me wrong your chipset could work but can you wait without a console (for the X360USB Pro to arrive) if it does go 'Tits-Up'....

It's really up to you buddy I can't force you to buy the product  when you may not need it :frown:
