ok so i got my cpu to see the ms28 drive in dos using idump as "xtreme pri master" however i have tried the following.

1.when i select the drive it hangs after attemptng to read it.

2.i have tried the power on and off switch method same thing it still hangs.

now i read all over the place and to my knowledge my sata chipset(via 8251 onboard) is compatible with this drive(ms28). btw i am botting into dos using ntfsfordos and accessing a folder on my hdd with iprep in it.

can someone suggest something to me cuz i am stumped at this point. and yes this is a virgin drive.

I'm not trying to state the obvious to you, but you haven't given much detail to what stages you have taken & in what order etc. Have you read the MS28 section in Textbooks tutorial?

Make sure you study it to make sure your doing everything in the right order.

ie: When you get to the drive list and see your 360 drive listed (Xtreme..... or whatever) This is when you should power off, then select the drive and power on again after 10 seconds. But try different timing if it doesnt work 1st time until hopefully you get it right.

My drive read/flashed after just 3 seconds, not 10! So keep at it trying everything from 1 - 10 seconds or maybe slightly more.

Yes as I said my drive read/flashed after just 3 seconds, so try different timings starting at 10 or maybe even 15 seconds then decreasing it by a second at each attempt until hopefully you will hit the correct delay that will work for your drive.

Also, maybe someone will be able to easily confirm or maybe you can look up to see that your chipset is compatible.

Also as it is Onboard, maybe you have to alter your RAID settings in BIOS?

I dont know enough about this, but have heard it mentioned so maybe check this, or maybe someone can confirm?

What do you think I mean?? I'm asking you how you got on with what you were asking about?

Did you get it flashed? Is everything OK now? That kinda thing. You didn't come back to say so I was asking. :?

still no luck.. after researching about it seems this ms28 is part of the new wave m$ is putting out now with the new security features.. as well as a lot of the black goo.. anyways i think this drive can only be flashed with the vcc method or ext sst programming.

I have not heard of that, I'm pretty sure ALL MS28 drives are flashable. The only difference from the MS25 being you have to bypass or disable the Firmguard which is present in the 28, which is easy using the VIA bad flash method, (10 sec trick.)

There are however 2 types of MS28 drive, just with different FW versions - MS28a and MS28b, both flashable the same way.

They are both model: TS-H943

But you have two types of firmware, MS-28a & MS-28b.

I'm not sure how you tell what drive uses which firmware though. On the drive itself it just says MS-28 on both.

What type of machine are you using? Custom built PC or dell or gateway? If your using a brand name one your gonna have problems cause the bios doesnt tend to detect new hardware after the bios boot screen passes and once it starts reading from cd or HD.
