ok firstly ive done tonnes of these and never encountered this issue so im not a noob.

here goes i was unlocking a 9504/0272, i use one of those little templates with a wee hand drill with my resistor wire attached and its very easy, however with this one i press the button to send the unlock data and started drilling and as normal got the tone saying the spi was unlocked and status 0x00. all good or so i thought however when i pressed the intro button to intro it for flashing it showed the drive as locked again status 0x8c.

first i tried resending the unlock data again and using some isopropyl alcohol as i would normally do to unlock a drive with the hole drilled previously, did not work so then i drilled some more and got the tone and status 0x00 again however when i introed the drive the same thing happened again it reverted back to status 0x8c and i cant write to it.

the hole is deeper than normal due to drilling it twice but the drive still seems to eject and function properly but due to the depth i dont want to try drilling it anymore.

im on tramadol atm due to a bad shoulder injury so ive sat here wondering if ive missed something stupid lol but i really dont think so.

has anybody else encountered this or know what the problem is? cheers in advance

can you see the wire, has it been severed (check with a magnifier)? if not only drill 1/4 turns until it has unlocked, dont intro, just lock it, then unlock again, do this a couple of times. The wire depth can vary from chip to chip, be careful and go extra slow.

cheers mate i couldmt see the wire so i marked the chip out manually and using a dremel widened the hole a bit as it wasnt centred in my markings. it unlocked but then when i tried to write to the drive it froze at writing bank 0. now it just freezes at writing bank 0 every time and when i intro the drive there is no spi status button to lock and unlock the drive

ok got that problem sorted by pressing ctrl, shift and f11 to lock the spi status again. restarted jf, x360 usb pro and the drive, introed and had the status 0x8c unlock button available again.

selected the unlock spi button and used some ipa and it unlocks fine selected to write and it writes it all fine however after the flash verification test i now get the message "write verify failed"

i have read the fw back and it shows as lt3.0, does the write verify failed message matter?
