"it will boot 3 times and on the third boot just frag"

Just so you know, then entire process of reboot x 3 and flashing red/green is called a FRAG, not just the flashing part. A lot of people post they have a FRAG when they don't.

You however, do ;)

Have you tried booting from the backup BIOS?
What Xbox do you have?
If it's the 1.6, did you use the PCB? If so, then this is the area you need to work on.

my xbox version is a 1.4 and no i cant get it to boot to the backup. it seems to me for some reason i have recieved a blank chip. i probably did not, but that is my first guess, i will take no further action untill instructed because i dont know what the hell im doing. i was wondering if it would be possible to flash it with my 2.6 programmer i just got. just a thought. thank you

There's no way you have a blank chip.

I'd recheck you soldering points - do you get both lights on the chip when booting for instance?

If you press power and eject together, but press the power button slightly before the eject it should go into a backup BIOS.

If it doesn't then check the power/eject board that the yellow cable goes in to.

If it still frags then you need to check the soldering.

vinney,

I had a similar problem (backup bios never worked) and fortunately I was able to use a friend's X3 to test the connections. My connections were fine and his X3 booted up great. I just used his to boot my xbox and then swapped chips and flashed while the xbox was running. I think there is something wrong with my backup bios as I don't know of any other explanation, and perhaps you are having the same problem. I would, however, go ahead and seriously doubt that your X3 chip has lost its backup bios, but it wouldn't hurt to try a friend's X3 in its place to test.

Re: Using Sata Port off the mother board

What problems are you having using your onboard SATA ports? You should really be using onboard ports when flashing the Hitachi drives, primary port preferred.
