To the guy that asked about marketplace.
You cant even get to xbox live, so yeah no marketplace.

Secondly like I stated before I dont think they can detect the
actual backup games. They are looking at something else.
I mean they did design the board thats in the machine.
Who's to say day didnt leave another backup plan like
efuses but software related.

True I modded my first xbox 360 but only becaused I
Painted my system and already had voided my warranty
so I was like oh well I have nothing to loose.
If my system breaks, or I get 3 rings I cant get it repaired
anyways because I already opened it.

But in my previous post I said I have never played a backed up
game online. That means either one of two things.
1. They have some other way to check to see if you have played a back up.
2. They have some unknown way to see if hardware has been changed.

Whats really funny is. Around 2pm CST today there was around 100 thousand people playing halo 3. When I got my first call today that
one of my friends was banned. It was around 4pm CST.

I got home at 6:45pm CST and I found out that I was banned.
There has only been a few thousand people online playing Halo 3
Everytime I checked after 4pm.

I think MS underestimated the number of people that have modded
there xbox's. LOL there was only like 392 gamers playing team slayer
in the last game I just played. But it is 2am cST now but anyways.

Wouldnt it be funny if 70 thousand people where banned LOL.
I think MS might just bite the bullet and let people back on, because
you wouldnt want to piss off that much potential money.

I've always been curious of that myself. Does anybody think they have a good estimate of how many modded 360's there are? I doubt MS would release the number of consoles they banned.

Im still ok (18th May-10am GMT)

Samsung m25 - Xtreme 5.3

On live at present.

But we all knew the risks, so we cannot moan and bitch. We all made a decision to FW the drives.

I have a core system on standby as I know I'll eventually get banned too.
But what I don't understand is unmodded 360's getting banned - Maybe MS have made a little mistake which may cost them large!?

I'll let you know how long my modded machine stays active for.

Cheers.

I confirm this post, I downloaded the halo 3 beta as soon as it went live and there were like 20-30k people online, but today when i got home from work there were only like 300 in rumble pit it was as low as 60 at one point.. how sad is that?

I'm a beginner to all this but I would like to know the following:

OK somehow am i'm sure the firmware bods out there will figure it out MS seem to know what machines are using modded firmwar. But what exactly do they do to the xbox360 ?. If it's ban the mac address surely someone could find a way of spoofing the mac address so it changes everytime you boot up or something ? Are we saying the motherboard is getting banned therefor the cost of a new motherboard would be more expensive than a new machine ?. Once your banned i'm assuming it's only from live therefor nothing is stopping you playing backups on your machine or can they tottaly bugger up the machine so it won'y allow you to do anything ?

I THINK I HAVE AN IDEA!!! Whether it will work or not is a different matter...

If you DE-SOLDER the EEPROM chip on your 360 motherboard your console should still work fine and should work online too. The Eeprom chip itself stores the Dash and other "Upgradeable" pieces of 360 Software so if we de-solder that it could possibly stop the update from working and therefore being banned?

Sectors
1 copyright notice, zeros, unencrypted numbers
2 encrypted data
@2MB filesystem, unencrypted, but content encrypted, config not

These sectors could be the numbers that appear when you are banned the error numbers, so by removing this chip it could POSSIBLY send the numbers back to their original status and therefore stopping you being banned from LIVE.

If someone could try this out on a banned console and see if it works it would be much appreciated!!!

Heres a link to what the eeprom chip looks like and more info: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEFFZulpuuTdYzDcXf.php

Never played backups, reflashed to OEM (Banned.)

Interesting Tid bit I have a personal friend that has done something.
They I know lots of you may find very interesting.
I was trying to post on xbox scene but there swamped with traffic.

Anyways My friend was just like me never played backups online,
and he has two Xbox 360's. Anyways He did the big update
they had (what two weeks ago), and right after the update. He got
spooked so he reflashed his drive back to the OEM.
He still got banned

Yes Banned with orginal firmware. I mean true he did mod his box
so it was against policy, but like i stated before MS has a way of detecting
modified xbox 360's, and its not by playing Backups.

It is time to flash back the modded drive to original fw, cover the box with a DRY towel, keep on until ring of death and send it back to MS. If a massive amount of ppl are doing this, MS will face with even more cost of repair. I think all the banned ppl would do this (at least once).

Good move MS! :)

I read this on the major nelson forum. some guy came up with it. Brilliant idea!! 5/5

Read loads of posts from across numerous forums.

Loads of people have been getting banned even though they have original firmwares now on their 360's.

Maybe MS started collecting the info on modded drives when they released the 'security update' earlier in the year. That would explain why people are being banned even though they've flashed back or not even been on live lately.

Also, those that haven't flashed and have still been banned. How many of these are using re-furbised consoles after sending theirs back to MS?

Could be that when MS re-furb them, they are mixing H-LG Drives with MB's that had Samsung's and are having to spoof the firmwares. That would surely flag up as modded then.

Just my thoughts

Yea, it is really odd. My friend next door to me has the latest hitachi 2.4 Firmware, modded it myself. He is still playing on live and its currently "may 18, 2007" why infact he is using a backup of crackdown to play his Halo 3 beta lol. Im down in FL. I just think it's very odd all those people got banned but only a handful didn't....

probably its that tihng that i said earlier. they only banned some people to see what results do they get. how much profit they make or lose from these actions. if they profit then everyone will get banned. if they loose custumers over to sony than they will be more tolerant.

Well I have 2 360's and one of them is banned. I hooked up my other one this morning and to my surprise I can get on live with it, for now anyways. Both systems have older Hitachi drives. Very weird.
