Well... I killed my XBOX

I tried installing the X3 on my 1.6 XBOX and not all went well because i'm a dirty newb who's never soldered anything in his life, I got the FRAG problem so i thought I'd try again and see if I could solder it right, then the little Rebuild PCB seemed to get a bit burnt and it looked the worse for wear and basically being a retard I just tried to get the whole X3 out to because I wanted to cut my losses but I stuffed that somehow and now it doesn't want to work, won't even boot to standard ms bios. Anyway, i'm a bit disappointed, wish I had've just paid someone to install it. does it sound like my box is beyond repair?

desolder everything and if you are sure about your soldering, solder it again... If not, go with your box to somebody that knows to solder and i'm sure he will know if its your soldering or something else...

Get some Solder Braid! clean upusing that!

When you say
I got the FRAG problem
Explain what happens exactly! "FRAG" means quite a lot in the world of Xbox!

Sorry my bad, the problem I had initially, is that it'd try to boot up twice, then it'd flash red and green but the ms bios would load. But i don't really care about that anymore, I basically just want to see if I can get my box working at all now.

In my experiences with my x2.3b lite+, it does christmas lights (turns on/off a few times, then frags) when the D0 point is connected to the chip right, but the chip isn't getting powered.

don't feel bad. same thing happened to me. on 1.6 the install is tricky. i have done a lot of soldering before.

my biggest mistake was using silver bearing solder; i should have known better; i guess it was the fact that this was the forst time i used a 15 watt iron. silver bearing is harder to melt.

Hi thanks for the reply’s, I used a 30W soldering iron and I have a little soldering experience. I have also checked the board for any traces. Also when I power up the XBOX it makes a lot of clicking noises.
Thanks.

The only thing I know that would make clicking noises is a fu**ed hard drive. Did you do anything else to the xbox in the process of moding it??

I installed the X3 mod chip with the LPC Rebuild then switched on my xbox with the X3 enabled got no picture on my tv so I tried switching on with the X3 disabled but same problem. Because of this I uninstalled the X3 tried starting up and the flashing and noises were still present.
but i left the HDD connected to the board and the cables are still connected. Thanks for the reply

AP25 checks.

I have a lite on driver, flashed it with the probe a couple months ago. From what I've seen, it's best to not update, right? All the new games will have AP25 checks which will make them not work, so the only thing I will be able to play is the older games? I shouldn't update if this is the case.

Is there a fix for this so I can update but still be able to play games with AP25 checks? I kind of miss not playing online, since I dished out quite a lot of money for a couple months subscription. I am also looking to buy a kinect, but I think you need to update for that to work, right?

Please keep me up to date...

Re: AP25 checks.

Your lite-on drive will require a reflash with LT+. LT+ is not released yet, but it will be...eventually. I recommend either staying offline until LT+ comes out, or flashing your dvd drive back to stock (unmodding it) so you can play online without any worry. :)

flashing back to original firmware is still not safe!!!

Re: AP25 checks.

Why is it not safe? He's still running dash 9199, so if he flashes back to stock, then updates to the Kinect dashboard, how would he be detected?

The only thing I can think of is if he burnt his games incorrectly.. but he's probably fine, no?
