Note: I searched all over for information on this and could only find partial information on the benefits for running unsigned code, but not for playing my backups. If it is on a sticky or listed elsewhere please point me to that post/thread.

I have been away from the scene for some time and I want to catch up with what has been going on. I have been reading about the new AP25 challenges and new requirements. I really just want to play some of my new games like Madden 12 and Gears 3 which I will be getting when it comes out. I assume that they have all the new anti piracy checks. What I would like to know is what benefits would I get from JTagging my xbox 360 purely for playing backups. I am not interested in running unsigned code.

I read somewhere that if my xbox 360 is JTagged and I spoof my DVD drive as a Samsung then it will not perform the AP25 checks. Is this true? If so, would this make my job easier interms of how many firmware updates I need to make...and/or not having to re-patch and burn my older games? I have a phat 360 with a BenQ drive that was banned from XBL about 2 years ago. It is currently on dash update 9199. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you wouldnt need to do anything to your drive just ftp the games to your xbox hard drive and use freestyle dash to run the games. its worth doin and you save money on disks, there are plenty of tutorials on how to jtag your xbox

Thanks for the reply franky118. So if I understand correctly, I would be able to save my games to the XBOX hard drive and then be able to launch them from there without having the disc inserted...is that right? If so, that would be great because I used to be able to do that with my original XBOX and I loved it. My main thing is that my kids always scratch my discs and /or lose them so I have to constantly watch for that. That sounds great. Is there anything else?

I don't know if you were around for xbox 1 modding days, but it is much like that; You can get the custom dashboards, and run unsigned code, and backup games that you own to the hard drive so you don't need to get up to switch discs. You can also write your own code for the xbox if you are handy enough to do so, which opens it up much more than XNA will let you do. If you've been banned already you can patch the dashboard to make xlink kai work properly with the 360.
Also... Linux. Linux is there.

Edit: Just read your post; You were indeed around.
