What could it be?

What could be wrong here? I have a 1.6 box and just installed the X3 CE chip. Everything seems to be in working order as far as the chip install goes. I have both the 3.3v and 5.0v led on the chip lit, and the external leds (HDD LAN) are also working. All the three different 'startup modes' work as well:

- Short tap on power button gives blue x on external pad,
- Pressing and holding power button > 1 sec gives red x on external pad and loads M$ DASH
- Pressing both power and eject gives purple X

The problem is that when doing either the short tap on the power button or pressing both power and eject, instead of loading any BIOS screen it tries to boot three times and then starts fragging. Is the reason that there is an older version of Flashbios on the X3, or could there also be other reasons for this?

Any input you can give on this would be greatly appreciated.

Means that at least one of your solder joints is not as good as you think it is.

Check your pin header rebuild.

I have argued this one a million times with myself... NO I AM NOT CHECKING my soldering... I know it is AWESOME. LOL everytime my solder job was at fault.

Good Luck

I had similar problem ( reboot 3 times then FRAG)

Use X3 bios 1959 special build for 1.6.
Usually X3 bios 1959 is for 1.0-1.5. There is a special build for 1.6.

Guys, I found out where I screwed up. Unbelievably stupid mistake. Somehow I had managed to solder the alternative 5V point wrong. I soldered the wire to the wrong, hmmmm..., thing (heh, whatever that thing is called). I was apparently tired (yeah yeah excuse for stupidity) and soldered the wire to a similar 'thing' on the opposite end of the motherboard. I guess I never caught it because the 5V led on the chip was lit. Anyway, when I found out the mistake and moved the wire to the correct spot the chip works like a charm. Damn luck I didn't fry my chip. So that's the end of that story. Thanks for the input everyone, and the moral of the story: If your box is fragging, triple check EVERYthing, even though you KNOW it is correct (yeah right).
