Flashing the bios... um... flashes the bios!
It's is another term for loading a new bios onto your chip.
It's called flashing because... well lets get some backround first. A BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is very... basic. It is very small, much smaller than an OS. It is used usually to "talk" between an OS and the hardware. Your PC has a BIOS that tells your machine how to boot and where to look for an OS. The BIOS is read off a hardwired chip into RAM (Random Access Memory) where it is run. Once loaded into RAM the BIOS on the chip is not accessed again. So in order to "write" a new BIOS you copy over your chip info... using the exsisting BIOS in RAM and then restart...which loads the new BIOS you just flashed.
So in the end I don't know why the hell it's called flashing... I think it's just because. The end!
