Hey Guys -
My old XBox is on the way out. I have always had the drive (Samsung m28) flashed with LT. Recently, I integrated an **** and really like it. The bad news is that even though it's been repaired many times before, it is getting RROD more and more. Every time, I have to reapply paste and tighten. Decided it was time for a new (to me) system.
I went to GameStop and purchased a used, older model Phat XBox. It turned out to be a Falcon MB with a Lite-On drive. I hooked the drive up to JungleFlasher and found it was on FW 0251. Bad News, I am pretty sure I now need additional hardware which means I'll have to wait :frown:
Hardware I Currently Own
- X360USB Pro
- CK3i DVD Drive Power Supply
- Soldering Iron / Flux (Even though a novice)
- Tons of other various hardware/cables from workstations/laptops/servers
I can be an inpatient person so want to make sure that I purchase the correct hardware and get everything I need to make sure I don't have to re-order. That's assuming anyone out there has a suggestion on how to proceed without additional hardware...
Therefore, I have a couple of questions, please...
Questions
1. Should I flash/mod LiteOn drive and use in it's original system - OR - Should I swap the DVD drives (Take Sammy m28 from original box and use in place of Lite-On in the new system?)
I read to replace the drives would require extracting the drive key therefore still requiring the additional hardware (Probe.) If it is needed, I'm not sure if swapping the drives is worth the extra hassle
2. I've been told that the only additional thing I'd need would be a probe. I assume that an Xecuter CK3 Probe III V3 would work. Is that correct?
3. Is there any other hardware that I would need which could not be found locally?
PCB board(s), etc?
The feature that the mods supply that is most important to me is access to my backups. Still, I have considered performing a NAND / JTAG instead. Haven't researched it in a while so don't know if worth the extra effort or not. I'm really into technology and love to build / mod things (love Raspberry Pi's & Arduinos) but don't know if it would be too risky for a novice solderer.
So, what do you think? If there's any additional info you need, please let me know. I have the XBox with me here now so can look at it, but don't have my X360USB at the moment.
Thanks Guys!
