What exactly can't you do if you get banned?

Hi all,

Is the Switch still "useable" if you get a super ban from Nintendo?

And by that, i mean, can I still boot into CFW and play my backups of my own cartridge dumps?

Or is the console not useable at all for anything?

edit - Is it possible to create a new Nintendo profile, restore the system NAND, log in to the new profile and be ban free again? Do they ban by console, by user, or some other way?

All they can do is stop the online access side of things - for THEIR servers etc. Everything else is as it is with any other Switch.

I believe the console and user are both banned so creating a new account won't do any good.

As @lordplops said the ban applies to Nintendo servers - so you won't be able to download any future updates. The Switch will still be usable but some games might not work if they require an update

As I understand it now, they only ban the console. Once the console is banned you cannot connect to any of Nintendo's services even if you restore a clean nand. I imagine (speculating) they are banning the serial number, mac address as well as any other identifying elements of the console it self. In the beginning they would banning both consoles and accounts, but I do not believe that is the case anymore.

Do you think it would be possible to spoof everything associated with the console identity and get back online?

I don't really know much about this, just asking out of curiosity :)

Theoretically, yes I guess it would be possible. I am not a coder myself, so I don't even know what would be involved, but the bigger issue right now is that no one has confirmed what Nintendo is even checking to ban consoles. Until that is discovered, even something like spoofing the console info would not help imo.

Prior to 7.0, Nintendo was apparently blocking access to not only online features but they were blocking access to even update your Switch's firmware. I read somewhere that with the release of 7.0 that Nintendo allowed the access to update firmware.

I have never used my Switch online for anything but to update the firmware. So I do not know, as of writing this, how Nintendo is deciding to allow or not allow banned consoles to access firmware. However, There is always the offline way to update the console if Nintendo did in fact go back to blocking banned consoles from updating their firmware.
The only problem with the offline way is that Nintendo does not release the firmware for public download, meaning you have to download it from non-official sources. And that has serious potential for damaging the Switch or bricking it. If the firmware has been tampered with that is.

They did that when 6.2 was released as well. Most likely to try and stop CFW use, but since CFW uses a hardware hack, as we can see it's only a matter of time before it's cracked again.
