What happens if you install a drive with the wrong dvd key

I have a few xbox's that aren't reading discs. They aren't jtaggable and they aren't RGHable (xenons).

They appear to have been worked on before. So i was wondering what happens if they dvd key on the drive doesn't match the motherboards.

Will discs just not show up? Will the drive even work?

If you put a game in it will say play dvd

You want to swap the PCB out with a working drive then install that one (with the consoles original pcb) into the console. Or you adjust the potentiometer on the laser (Google it). Or replace the laser. (Best suggestion)..
