Will someone please explain what the LCD is for and what it does. Because as I see it it just looks like something that lights up, so saying that I think anyone that has it has wasted there money on an exspensive lite . . . .

If you had searched you would have found that its a direct chip interface that can work with some dashboards (like XBMC etc.) and tell you what your watching and how long it has remaining etc. I have a crystalfontz LCD in my tower and while some consider it a gimmik of sorts I can look over and see when I have new mail and the like or the info on what MP3 I am listening to.

To each his/her own I suppose. But the end line is its an application display interface

Will I get one? - probably .... as part of the X3CP.
Will I use it? - probably not .... but that hole in the X3CP will look empty without it.

The LCD will do nothing when in games. It can't. There is nothing to drive the interface once you enter a game - because games don't know anything about modded boxes (supposedly).

XBMC and dashboards might be able to make some use for it, but it will pretty much be eye candy. But, nothing says you can't have a sweet tooth sometimes :)

The minute you do anything to a stock Xbox, it really is a gimic ... some mods increase functionality (like adding a mod chip, and a larger HDD), some are for aestetics (LEDs, paint jobs), some fall between the two (like the LCD).

Apps like XBMC can make use of the LCD. In that case, they can work like an MP3 jukebox, displaying track information, etc.

To make real use of the LCD, the developer needs to code for it (like the X3 BIOS displaying bank/BIOS details, and XBMC displaying track information). Unless you are running linux on your xbox, most apps you will run (games) have no idea about the LCD.

So yes - it is a gimic. Just like the LCD screens made by all Xbox mod groups.

my friend has a LCD screen in his XBOX and it shows hints during games he has some APP for his computer that programs games that he FTPS to do things like that

I'm not going to say thats complete BS - but are you sure (links please)?
My understanding is that the Xbox does not have the capability to do background processing while another app is running. I could be wrong - its been known to happen.

If it IS true, I'd like to see how it was done - because I've shelved an idea I had because of the multitasking issues.

I'm not sure if I wanted to mod my box but I have worked on a few of my friends modded boxes and had a good time. Although I wish the new molded face didnt have the pro switch incorperated, but I like the fact that they are starting to try and mass produce such mod items makes it easier on the simpler modders !

ya i'm pretty sure ur right. i thought once a game loaded on an xbox all connections were closed. which is why a pc to xbox connection isn't possible while a game is running.
