I'm the proud recipient of a new, pre-modded xbox. There's plenty of information around here on the mechanics of flashing the bios. But before I get to that, I need to understand WHERE I want to flash it to.
My first challenge is which version of the 1959 BIOS to use; I guess I can either guess based on the date of the box, or, more reliably, by opening it up to see.
My second challenge is where to put it. As I understand it, 1959 is a 1MB BIOS, which gives me 2 choices of where to put it -- 1234 or 5678. Is there any reason I should choose one or the other, or should I just flip a coin? In particular, I have some vague impression that it may matter whether I have 1.6 or 1.6b.
Between all the problems I've read with media issues (CD-R, dummy files, etc.), and video compatibility, it seems like flashing through the network using HTTP is most likely to give me success. Would others agree?
Now, having done that, I *should* be in business. But suppose that I either guessed the wrong xbox version, or something broke partway through the flash. Is it possible at this point to reboot into the same bank, and try again? Can I / should I flip to the other bank and try again?
What happens if I blow my second try as well? I've seen other references to a backup BIOS (like in here http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=24553). How can I boot into that? Or do you not boot it, but have one of the normal banks flashed from it?
Obviously these are way noob questions, but I haven't seen the WHAT addressed anywhere else, just the HOW. Thanks for your patience.
