Please describe your setup;

It sounds much more like a dash/network fault than a modchip error.

Ok, i just didnt know where to start, havent fund anything on the net yet, just that others have the same problem.

My settings in Xbox: ip 196.168.0.1 and the same in in qwix and pass:xbox login:xbox port:21
the xbox also have default gateway: 192.168.0.2 and subnetmask: 255.255.255.0

Could it be that the former owner havde chaged any other settings,

Thank u guys for trying to help (or girls)

ok - this is your internet connection. It is NOT connected to your Xbox.

Have you actually got another network card in your PC? If not, how do you expect to connect to your Xbox?

This is unusual, the main PC on the network or router is normally;
192.168.0.1

the clients are
192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254
each client should have the gateway set to 192.168.0.1

everyone should be on the same subnet, 255.255.255.0 is standard

You should either have another network card in the PC for the Xbox or a router. A router is easier, a lot easier!

You can set it up with just one Network card in your PC but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're very familiar with setting up networks! You'd need to re-initialise the IP address of the card every time you switch between the internet and the xbox and have to manually set the IP address each time for the xbox setup.

I think he only has the one network card, so he'd have to do what you've suggested and reconfigure the IP address each time.

Yes, you have been using the wrong type of network cable.

The one for your internet is a standard patch cable pin 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 etc.

You need a cross-over cable where the data in is connected to the data out at the other end, and visa versa.

Edit: Just a thought, what type of internet connection do you have? When I didn't have a router I connected to my cable modem via USB (instead of network) and then dedicated the spare network port for my Xbox.

paul_phil - your edit is correct. A standard broadband modem would use a crossover cable, so this should be ok to use for the Xbox.

Just to clarify:

My (NTL) cable modem uses either USB or a standard network cable, NOT a cross-over cable!

I don't know if all modem manufacturers go by this method or not so don't take it as a definite.

My edit was to let him know that if his modem has USB there's another method to setup dedicated Xbox network connection.
