Hi, im trying to mod my xbox360 slim 4gb to play games iso´s trough usb if possible no live or anything necessary, im new to all this so can anyone point me in the right direction? what is the best method for what i want to do? Ive already opened it up and it has the DG-16D5S DVD-ROM DRIVE if that is any help.

If you want to play iso files, the XODE is the way to go, Who knows when/if it will be released. Your next best bet is RGH, but you will loose live.

Since you have a 16D5S drive whichever mod you go for you will have to RGH the console anyway to get the drive key.
To play ISO files u will need to rgh the console.. Easiest way I found was to install a Dgx 1.1.. And take a NAND reading before anything else with a NAND x... Then once you have a NAND reading you can write the Dgx ecc and boot xell to get your cpukey & dvdkey.. Reflash your ecc with your original ecc or NAND if needs be and uninstall Dgx. Your console is now back to retail.. Once you have them files the worlds your oyster in what you do either install cool runner and rgh but tht takes live option away.. But you could install an emulation device and keep live function but may be banned in the future.. =\

Anyway, you can do rgh, which involves a coolrunner (qsb is optional but recomended for noobs). Then if u want to go online you will have to install a DemoN chip.

All you need to do is get an RGH. It is up to you, you can get RGHED from a professional or do it yourself. RGH tutorials are present in this forum. RGH will allow you to play iso's through hdd's and usb's, but you will not be able to go live.

Not to be mean, just realistic and to answer your thread question: what's the best way to go? In your case sell your xbox and use that money to buy an already rgh'd xbox from a (professional) member on this site or somewhere in your town you live.I couldnt undestand half the terms you used, sry
if you can't understand half the terms used, you most likely will have a hard time rgh'ing the xbox yourself. Not to mention all the extra hardware you have to buy, glitch chip, and time reading the tutorials over and over.
Rgh is not done over 1 night sleep for someone who is just starting. It's up to you of course, if you're interested in learning etc and maybe do some more rgh for friends/relatives and so on, but rgh attempts can easily result in non working boxes...
good luck if you going for it, it is possible to successfully rgh your xbox, takes a lot of effort though...
