falcon jtag using alt points
3 nand dumps all identical with s bad blocks on each at 173 and 31d error 250
dash was 6717
make a fb immage and write it and the box starts as far as 360 logo and freezes
the writing process throws up one error 202 at block 173
flash back to original nand and all boots ok

why cant i get fb nand to boot?

First things first. Flash back your original NAND and update to 7371 then re-dump your NAND 3 times again and compare. Else your jtag won't have HDMI output if you use 6717 dash as source.

Did you get your CPU key before making freeboot? What did you use for creating freeboot?

Ok now this is very strange, i flashed back the original and checked it booted, i then used a usb pen drive to apply the system update to 7371 and it still booted, so i read the nand (im using coolshrimps jtag tool) and again same bad block, now using the cpu key and the nand file i can use the kv info button in jtag tool and it still says 6717 in the bottom corner?
anyway i create a new freeboot image and write it to the box
with the jtag switch to off i get E79, with it to the middle it boots as far as the new swirly logo and the white screen saying xbox360 and freezes, well almost i can press the centre remote button and get menus working but they dont do much, it tells me what game is in the dvd drive but will not play them
its a bit strange

sorry didnt clearly answer both questions, yes got cpukey from xell install and a picture of the screen,

is there another way of making the freeboot immage and writing it to the nand avoiding the block on the chip that i get the 220 error, or is this a red herring?

Ive flashed and reflashed etc still same problem, xell boots fine (I assume that means jtag wiring is ok?) and my freeboot immage loads with the one error, how dangerous would it be to start the cosole up with a usb stick with the 12611 dash update folder on? would this repair any corrupt parts? I would normaly do this to get avatars working again.
the only thing that worries me is a permanent update to the dash ruining the jtag part
not even sure if that is possible

Upload your original NAND dump to mediafire and then send me a PM with the download link along with your CPU key. I'll examine it and try to create a freeboot image for you

update for anybody who has a simmilar problem
I tried everything!
built a nand from a clean nand
freeboot on earlier dash versions
using xellous to load the nand so badblocks where mapped on the fly
this machine just runs fine on its original nand but will not fully boot on any type of updated freeboot nand

So

all bits taken out, back together and off to ebay for the dog!
there comes a time (about 10 hours) when you just have to give up and move on

and many thanks to the Man with no name
He suggested many avenues i hadnt thought of (my lack of experience) and even though i never got it working I am definately the wiser for the experience
