First, I would look at this link: http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

Make sure you get a drive from the list that is lockable. Then you need to make a backup of the original HDD.

Search the forums for more detail, there are alot of threads on installing a new HDD

No offense, but these questions have been answered before.

But, I'm feeling helpful right now, so here goes:

Brand should be one of the following-
Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung

Size-
Doesn't matter. As large as you'd like and however much you want to spend.

Just make sure to back up your old drive assuming you're planning on using XBox Live. If you don't really want to use XBox Live... then the third party software is better then the OEM software, and you really don't need the old software really. Well, except for playing DVDs. Whenever I use XBMC to play a DVD, it's kinda buggy and takes a long time to start, but at least you don't have to use the dongle!

Brand doesnt really matter, but if your a brand loyalist i guess it does, really just compare specs and go with what works for you and your wallet... i like http://www.newegg.com/ i prefer Maxtor Diamond Max harddrives, because they feature a 16MB buffer instead of the 8MB... my games tend to load a bit faster than with my other hdd's, that is only my opion so you dont have to use it if u dont want too...

True. But I wasn't mean about was I? ;) I always try my best to be a nice guy. The thing that makes me angry is when a n00b asks some question like, "So, can I still play on XBox Live?" Obviously, this takes a little while to answer, because it depends on multiple variables. They needed to do their research, fine. That's not the part that irritates me: it's when some other guy goes and cusses them out, or personally insults them. I will NEVER be that guy that goes and insults them personally, or cusses them out. First of all, I don't cuss, online or offline. There are much better ways of expressing opinions. I may occasionally quote somebody, but I never use the words myself. I also try not to sound condesending, although I probably failed in that respect on that post. For that, I appologize. But, even you have to admit, all the information is on these boards and in the stickies. This question comes up pretty often, and we repeat many questions because of this.

'course, there are more important things in life then these forums. So, that's no excuse. :)

If you felt insulted davids1076, I'm sorry. Just make sure to use the search button next time, eh? ;)
