Greetings forum members,

I apologize in advance for not taking the time to thoroughly research the topic, but I really haven't been doing this for a long time (flashing, firmwares etc) and the amount of information floating around is insane - meaning it probably makes more sense to ask you more experienced fellas for advice on the topic.

I have a phat xbox 360 (falcon I believe) which I purchased years back and I used firmware flashing back then (still have the key even!) for the purpose of playing backups. It was a LiteOn which since then ceased working - meaning I need a new method of playing backups which is independent of the drive. (it seems to make more sense than buying a new drive and keep wasting media for burning, assuming newer methods are available)
My question is the following - what is the simplest, cheapest way of playing backups on my xbox? is it RGH, JTAG? R-JTAG? what are the bare essentials for me to be able to do the following:
- Play backups from a mass storage device (i.e. HDD)
That's it. I don't need online access. I don't need homebrew or anything like that; just being able to play backups. (I don't know if the game-generation-limitations still apply, but I'd like to be able to play any backup)

Thanks in advance!

P.S - the less soldering, the better :).

If u don't want to solder then flashing your drive is the only way. Rgh involves soldering and buying all the equipment to do it. Might be easier to get someone to do the rgh for u. Since u are not bothered about going online then that's the best way to play your back up games.(All from a HDD).

Thanks a lot for the answer! I don't mind soldering, I just would prefer not having to do it if possible.
Any chance you can suggest the most optimal hardware to set up RGH? (Again, a lot of different chips, not sure which to choose / what bundle to get)

The chip is down to your preference. However only Tx chips will only give u support on here. The newest chip out is the cr4 xl which gives fantastic boot times. If u can find an older original tx chip like coolrunner rev c or cr3 lite then google rgh1.2 method. remember fake/cloned tx products will not get support on here.
