What is it about the bios for xbox version's 1.0-1.5 that makes it FRAG on a 1.6 xbox, and why does the 1.6 need it's own version of the X3 bios for it to work?

Just curious.

there were a few limiting hardware changes in the 1.6 box, and team xecuter had to remove some code in the bios for 1.6 machines

So, what would happen to the x-box if I installed the non-1.6 bios in my 1.6?...Just curious.

Fry?!? I highly doubt that... it may crash, but I doubt it's going to cause any lasting problems. For goodness sakes, it's just code!

Remember, the leaked m8 DID kill 1.6s. So lasting damage is certainly possible.
it's will only "kill" if you modded your box by flashing your TSOP using an exploit. and even then it's not dead. it's just you'll have to install a mod chip and then reflash your TSOP.

Well, what have you done to your liteon? Did you flash it and then it happened? Or did it just happen out of the blue?

Re: Lite on Open tray error

Does it read anything? Is it just your backups that it won't read?

Here is how I fixed 2 drives so far:

Open up the dvd drive, on the underneath side, right beneath the laser, there should be 2 small screws. You will need a T6 (i think) screwdriver. Completely unscrew these, then turn the screw in 6 to 7 times. I made a mark on the screw for reference while doing this. For me, I had to adjust it a few times but about 6.5 turns got it reading my backups again. This is on a drive that was given to me claimed to be "ruined". I have been using it for over a month now with only one open drive error and it went away by simply opening and closing the drive (the disk was in on startup).

Re: Lite on Open tray error

I haven't seen the insides of a lite-on drive, but if they are like any of the other ones, they are the 2 screws underneath the laser. It is pretty obvious which 2 they are, they are literally the only 2 moderately visible screws that you can even adjust. Do what I said in my previous post and it may help...if not, you are doing no harm to it.

Re: Lite on Open tray error

I modified 5 Xbox with Liteon drives(7xxxseries)... after a couple of days, four out of 5 started giving the Open Tray error...

burnsy87's suggestion worked for me....thanks, bro...all four drives are now working fine.

Re: Lite on Open tray error

ive found a good way of checking if its dead or not... if the drive says open try asoon as the tray closes its a died laser if it trys to read the disk for only a 1-2 seconds the laser is almost died usally at this point it will still play any dvd..... and if the drive struggle's and trys for 4-9 seconds then burnsy87's fix works
