WHY HAS IT BECOME SO HARD TO FLASH YOUR CHIPS ?????

Ok i'm no stranger to xbox modding - i've been installing for about 3 years, but this is getting me down:

xbox: v1.4/1.5
chip: Xecuter 2.6ce
bios: x2_5035_vOld_512k

Now when i first installed the usual cromwell (flashbios screen) came up and the chip flashed from disc, however the machine did not turn itself off. not a problem as this occasionally happens (it even says so on the screen).
Now it booted up after a few frags and i was able to get started my my ftp'ing, although I wasn't happy about the frags I continued and thought i'd deal with it later. well i rebooted the xbox and now all I get are frags. (sound familiar?)

So next I thought 'gotta be the soldering'. I've since checked all the soldering and checked for broken traces using a multimeter. All points are fine.

Next i plugged in a spare x3 i have lying around, turned it on and WHAM! Straight into the bios booting, 'xecuter rox my box' uix loads etc,etc PERFECT!!!!
So i've been using the x3 to boot up and hotswapping back to the x2.6 to try reflashing it.

I've tried reflashing using evox -(I updated evox.ini with the correct rom + flash hash number)- but i get !!unknown flash type!! error. Tried flashing with Flash-X but that tell me that there is no x2 connected. Where on earth do I go from here..........................I just cant seem to reflash the chip with any bios I try or any software I try.

Also i've tried 3 other x2.6's in this machine and ALL frag after the first flash - i've also tried substituting the motherboard for a different one, answer: same result, frags with x2.6 doesnt with x3

****SIDENOTE: where are your 'rom' and 'flash' hash's for use in evox flashing team X? I couldn't find an up to date list ANYWHERE in this forum******

It's been flashed once and worked for a short time but now it's refusing to respond to any methods i've used to flash modchips over the last 3 years. What is going on team x. I've been through the forums and seen many posts like this, I've never experienced a problem as SEVERE as this before.

It may be a problem with the switches or wires going to them. Try a different set and see if that helps.

That was one of the first things i tried. I've tried every concievable combination of parts. I've substituted out part for another each time. I've tried:

different chips
different switches
different wires
different motherboards
difffernt dvd drives
different hard drives
even different power supplies (incase is something to do with voltages)

nothing makes a difference

I think i'm getting closer to the answer though: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=441640

there are some lines you need to add into your evox ini file. The easiest way is to just upgrade to a newer dashboard. the one you have is probably to old to have the code to flash a 2.6 on it. I sugest build 3935

just downloaded the latest evox and it still says: !!flash type unknown!! i've also tried 'flash x' but i dont think it likes it when you hot swap. Also tired ther eurasia disc to flash it but that doesn't work either.

Anyone got any other tricks for flashing an x2.6??

Many thanks.

ok i just tried another x2 and it said the same thing - but i tried it a second time and it said PRESS 'Y' TO FLASH so i did....However now it erases half way and stops every single time.

the soldering is not an issue because my spare x3 boots every time (thats how i get into evox to flash) - i must have hot swapped over 20 times already.........
