This is the 5th xbox I've modded (third of which is done with an X3 chip) and it just keeps fragging. Some posts in this forum suggests that the pin header or the d0 may not be soldered correctly. I've checked every pin and every point on the LPC rebuild (xbox v.1.6) but cannot determine what the cause could be.

I've removed and resolder this chip about 4 times and got the same results. I had no problems with the ones I've done in the past whatsoever.

Any suggestions on what else I could check or do? What are the chances that I may have received a defective chip?

The other day i had the same problem .... i found that one of my pins on the pin header was loose ...i was able to push it through the pinheader .. LOL .... so i resoldered it ... double checked i couldnt push it through and bam .... it worked like a champ.

Like your gonna hear time and time again .... check, recheck, and double recheck your solder points .... resolder again... use flux .... or use a multi-meter to check resistance from point A to point B.

Thanks for all the great feedback.

Anyway, I forgot to mention an important detail. After I initially install everything, I powered on the Xbox and received the menu to flash the BIOS. Then I used my trusted X3 Bios CD-RW (which has always worked before) to flash the Bios.

It was after I successfully flashed the bios and the xbox powered off that I get this fragging. I can turn the xbox on with the chip disabled, but when I try to power on with it enabled, it frags.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm sure it's probably an error on my end, but I'm just not sure where to start.

reset the chip, hold down both the power and eject button when powering up. the switch should turn purple. And flashbios appear. Then you can try to flash again,

Thanks for the advice Redneck. I just finished reflashing the chip per those instructions and it's still fragging. I tried flasing with all the dip switches off (which should default to the first 1024k) and also with the just the first 2 on.

If the chip is not soldered correctly, I wouldn't be able to get the Flash menu right?

Re: Upgrade my 20gb to 60gb with hddhackr

hddhackr only works on western digital drives you can pick up a 250gb drive for about $50.

the reason we can only use WD drives is because the drive needs to be spoofed to appear as the same drive that matches your HDDSS.bin file and you need to use the vendor commands and patch the firmware on the drive just like if you were to spoof a DVD-ROM for the xbox.

hddhackr could be ported to other drives but it would be an awful lot of work and the programmer of hddhackr says he does not feel the time would be worth it.

I figured that I just was asking because some of the original xbox 360 60gb hdd were seagate thats why I asked. Ok then thank you for answering my question so fast.

you could probably take the PCB from an original xbox drive but that would kind of defeat the purpose, I wish I could use other drives would love to use a samsung instead of a western digital.
