I suspect that what you need to convince your Dad is not which chip to buy, but why you would want to buy any chip.
I don't know your Dad, but once you have upgraded your Xbox, and installed a new hard drive, you will be able to "back up" games and play them off your hard drive. Where you get these games to do the back up from is up to you ... legally you should own the games. But, if your Dad is the sort of person that copies CDs or videos, then he might understandthat a back up might be kept when the original is returned to the person you borowed it from.
Piracy is illegal and shouldn't be condoned, and Belgians are know for their sticking to the law, so this might not a good argument.
Once chipped, you can run XBMC, and use the Xbox for playing back MP3's - like a huge online jukebox.
If it is a technical question regarding soldering - then get the X3 and XAPT3R solderless adapter.
How many more arguments do you want us to come up with for you? Nothing we say will convince your Dad - you need to do that.
