Hi,

I have been trying to do my first flash and I think I've bricked a ms25

Used a floppy (I know :( ) as my MB doesn't support USB stick bootup and I had tried the NTFSDOSCD with no success.

Using XBM 0.5.3 and 5.2a FW and a v2 connectivity kit:

Read the orig.bin fine, flashed the drive seemingly fine but when I put it back in the 360 to test the standby light just blinks and the drive opens/closes repeatedly.

Bear in mind I have the orig.bin backed up.

I have tried rebooting the floppy, renaming the orig.bin xtremefw.bin and re-flashing but it hangs before it can flash, sometimes giving me status 51 and sometimes 80

Is it bricked? can it be repaired?

help please :(

Well it seems to have flashed properly, did all the banks complete? If they did you might need the enable0800.iso.

Don't take my word for it, I'd give it a go though.

Actually, it's only when it is closed. Seems that somehow the "open tray" command is constantly being sent to the drive.

I've flashed it twice with seemingly successful results (all banks cleared and backed up)

Any ideas?

Quick update with more specifics.

Decided to try putting the drive in another 360 as I thought the mobo may be borked. Flashed with unique key and xtreme 5.3-a for ms25

Still the same error, turn it on, power light continuously blinks, tray opens. I close the tray then the tray opens. Repeat ad infinitum.

Could the drive be bricked even though it flashes absolutely no problem?

Have you tried flashing without using the connectivity kit?

Did you make sure to select to report as ms25 in XBM 0.5.3?

And as Rackers said, if you don't have a VIA chipset you'll need to use the 0800 disc to disable Firmguard if you've already flashed hacked firmware on there.

Just tried it without using the connectivity kit. Exact same results, banks flashed ok (always been using 0800 disc btw)

Is it worth trying the rubberband mod?

Can you get the drive back to its original state? then seen if it has the same problem. open orig.bin and xtreme.bin see if your drive keys are the same maybe it corupted it when making the hack.
