OK, been running the X3 on a V1.0 for about a month now, works great no problems till two days ago. I booted to the dash like normal then put in my purchased copy of halo(this is legit) and told it to boot from disc. But it does nothing and in the top left corner it says 'init" (initializing) and then says 'no disc'. This feature has worked in the past as i did it in the first few days of owning the X3. Here is where it gets odd, if i just boot with the disc in, it works fine. I know i can play it like this but i would like to be able to rip things onto the hdd from the dash and this also will not work. I releoaded the dashboard twice now and no change. So if its not hardware, plays game when boots right to disc, and it does not seem to be software, since worked originally and relaoded twice since, then what can it be? Should i reflash the chip? Suggestions welcome. Thanks :(

I saw a similar issue with a friends xbox and his Halo 2. I updated his BIOS and it worked like a charm. I have seen issued with the older cdroms not reading discs all the time but if it works with it disabled but not with it enabled I would Update the BIOS first

Well i reflashed the chip, twice, then formatted the hdd and reloaded everything from scratch, with zero success. My next task is trying a friends dvd-rom to see if his will read discs to see if it has anything to do with my thomson drive. Out of curiousity, a v1.6 dvd-rom will work in a v1.0 right? Any other suggestions ae welcome, and thanks for the help. :(

Well not that i am suprised but it turns out my dvd-rom just seemed to quit, tried another dvd drive and it worked fine, another one of ms's great production drives, maybe I can jump on that class action case with that guy from CA. :?

Yeah that pisses me off that M$ put crappy dvd-roms in the older xboxs. I have seen it a few times when modding them and I have to have a spare around for that reason.

Different xboxs cannot read same disc

Hi guys,

I have trolled on the net for the answer to this and I can't seem to find it anywhere.
I got my xbox modded with the latest lite touch firmware, and my friend got his modded (not sure what version) right after me by the same guy.
I made some discs on verbatim DVD +R DL and played them on his xbox and mine perfectly fine, no problems what so ever.
my stepmum recently got me some more discs but she got me ritek ones. They all work fine on my xbox but none of them work on my friends at all. I have tried different games, older games, newer games but nothing seems to work on his xbox with these ritek discs.
Does anyone know why this is or if there is a possible fix?

Thanks

Re: Different xboxs cannot read same disc

every laser in every drive is different! one drive will read better than another!
but in your case - the cheaper riteks wont play in the other drive! most likely a weaker laser in that drive!
better off using Verbs!

I would ditch the Ritek discs get some more Verbatim or Falcon (my personal favorite) discs
