No, I believe the truncate method has already been killed off by a previous M$ update and I can't see it being resurrected when we now have a burner that can write full XGD3 discs, it would be a step backwards.
Actually truncates still work even on the new dash. I think c4eva will drop it out of the fw though because it only causes issues like in the Hitachi, he had to take the truncated feature out
If it's really that much of a hassle to get a Lite-on burner and Verbatims, then maybe returning your DVD drive back to stock is probably the best way forward.

I have the burner, i was asking for someone else, and i agree if you cant afford a 20$ burner then you shouldnt be in the game, with all the money you save on backups, it buys it self. you can never have too much knowledge and people do ask questions, so its always best to know.
