Will Zelda: Links Awakening require FW 9.0 due to recent update.

The normal game does not require FW9.0. Do not have a patch yet, so cant test if it requires FW9.0 then

Day ONE game update? Has anyone ever confirmed that those notifications are actual game UPDATES? ie. An update to the actual game?
Every single Physical Full-Cart game I have purchased, has given that notification, even when the developer has no game updates for the game they released. All of them. Not a single one has escaped that notification. I also have ignore them until, and sometimes past the time, I updated my Switches system firmware without having any play issues.

I think that request is more of a 'phone home' to Nintendo for tracking/certing than anything else. Emphasis on 'THINK', as I have no way or knowledge on how to test my hypothesis. One caveat: Nintendo has snooping rights on to all Switch systems that all Nintendo Switch owners must agree to in order to legitimately use the Nintendo Switch. So they can, and in fact do, know what games you play (and for how long) on your Switch even if you don't update, or play a particular game with internet enabled. Once you get online, the Switch auto-sends Nintendo all game use information.
