LITEON DG-16D4S - SLIM Winbond Chip is Making me Quite Angry

Okay so the first drive I had in my Xbox originally, was a 0401 Drive. I decided to flash it. So it was a Winbond chip so I bought the Stencil and it came with the drill bit. So I drilled and drilled etc... and got it unlocked. Turns out, I drilled a tad bit to far because it didn't lock/write/read. So it drive was useless. So I go ahead and buy another one of eBay. Came in yesterday, decided I'd give it another go today with flashing it.

Now please take note, I've done Winbonds before. I do them all the time for my friends along with MXIC so I'm no noob when it comes to these. It just seems like MY winbonds have the worst luck.

So I go ahead and take my time with this one. Literally took 30 Minutes to unlock it because of how cautious I was going. This time I got it perfectly. Read the drive, wrote LT+ to the drive, and locked the drive 100% perfectly fine. No errors what so ever. Also, please note the new drive I bought was a 9504, which I wrote my original 0401 to. So I figure Wow I finally got mine to work.

No.

Put it into my Xbox expecting to hear the disc, MW3 Retail NOT Burned, spinning. But nope. Just sat there, while the laser would try reading it. So I opened the drive up again to make sure it was written to the drive correctly. And it was. Again, it unlocked good after I put some rubbing alcohol on it to unlock it. Cleaned it off, wrote it, and locked it again. Zero Errors.

But still, the drive does not spin the disc...

So if anyone could give me any advice at all as to why Retail and Back Ups will not spin, then please give me some advice. I'm about to break this Xbox.

Thanks.

Did you test the drive before flashing? If not, sounds like a bad spindle motor or bad spindle motor ribbon. Check and make sure all ribbons and other cables are properly seated.

When I got the drive, it was pre unlocked on the 9504 Firmware. So I flashed it to stock. But today I got really bored of just playing regular games, so I decided to flash it.

Before I drilled however, the drive worked 100% perfectly fine.

sounds like a bad flash, but not spinning can be because laser aint picking anything up either.

I'm just gonna give up... I should've just flashed it to LT+ when it was pre unlocked. I guess it was just my own stupidity. Next time I drill I'm going to unplug all the cables.

To eliminate the possibility of a kamikaze bugger-up, you could always try an unlocked PCB? I had a drive not spin up once because of a kamikaze (the rest seemed to be working fine), but a unlocked PCB solved the issue.

Martin C, do you think this would've made a difference in this case?
It only makes a difference if you screw up.

You're drilling into a chip whilst it has 5v/12v power running through the board. Get it wrong and you'll send voltage down to devices which aren't expecting them.

If you disconnect all ribbon cables, worst case is you trash the IC.

Okay so you're saying if I'm going to be trying to drill into another PCB, to make sure all ribbon cables are disconnected? Then I'll be good to go?

Also I could've sworn it was recommended to remove cables when flashing due to laser as well.
