I hope this is the correct forum.... I don't have a hub or router so I'm stuck with the winroute option to connect my xbox to my pc I guess....

I have a ADSL modem that's connected trough USB to my pc (i-net works fine)

I connected my Xbox using a standard network cable from my pc intigrated network card (on the motherboard) to my xbox and now I'm stuck ....

The tutorial on this very forum says "read the winroute manual" but I dunno what I'm looking for ...

Hey

I read those before posting this thread :(
I'll try to explain as good as I can (I'm not always clear I know :( )

I have a PC with usb modem connected.
I have a Xbox connected to my motherboard by a standard network cable
I installed Winroute

(I of course have a modded xbox flashed with a 'hacked' bios that can run unsigned data)

I don't have a crossover cable or hub or router ... (no 2 network cards either, just 1 build in NIC on the motherboard that's connected to the Xbox)

I'm looking at my Winroute administration screen (I filled in my dail-up details and it connects to the internet fine)...

In all of this, you haven't actually said what you're trying to do.

Are you aware that Winroute is just another ICS-style program?

You don't need it - just configure your PC to have ICS enabled!

How to make a network in three easy steps...

1. Get a cross over cable... By standard I assume you mean straight through...

You see your PC is a DCE (Data Communications Equipment) and so is your XBox. Whenever you have two DCE's connecting you need to use a cross over cable.

2. Set your IP's...

The easiest way to do this whole thing is to get everything you need off the internet... your BIOS, your dash, some apps, whatever... then set an IP on that NIC. If you don't use winroute then you're gonna have to disable the usb connection... but winroute is a piece of sh*t anyway and you already have everything you need on your HD of your PC.;)

So your XBox booting to the X3 BIOS (3.0.1 or 3.0.2 or any of them really) will try and get a DHCO addy... since your not running a DHCP server on your PC it'll default to 192.168.0.99. So set your PC to 192.168.0.100 with a 24 bit mask (255.255.255.0) and no default gateway.

3. ping your Xbox.

Open up your run box (Start - Run) and type cmd. At the command prompt type ping 192.168.0.99

If it pings then you did it right.

Then you just open up Internet Exploder and type http://192.168.0.99 and follow the painfully easy instructions!!

Don't use FireFox it won't work right.

Well, there you have it. Barring that you don't have a firewall or have the wherewithall to turn it off... you should be great!

Gooooood luck!

p.s. if you still want to use winroute... go here

Hey,
You need to learn some basic networking. Because as Martin said you do not need winroute. You should go back and read those STICKY'S again.

And just in case you are paying as much attention to this thread as you obviously did for the threads you said you read, you need a crossover cable.
