Wire Install Xecuter 2.6 Ce, V. 1.5, Error 5

I'm getting an error 5 which means that harddrive is not locked.

I had the xecuter running before, and unlocked the harddrive (by curiousity, I was trying to get a dashboard in)

Then I installed a cromwell bios that did not support v. 1.5 (no video supported)

I have cromwell bios that I found online, it must have been an older version, becuase it does not support 1.4 or 1.5 (no video).

Here's the site
http://www.xbins.org/nfo.php?file=xboxnfo603.nfo

You can see that there is no video support for 1.4 +

I can't even see the bios even if it were to come up.

A friend mentioned holding the power button for a few seconds to come up to the bios menu, perhaps this is only on certain mod chips.

As for the update CD, I meant vague as the website listed above explains it.

What to do.

As I said earlier, the mod chip was successfully installed at one point, via pin header, flashbios loaded up, then I closed the xbox, took to my friend's house, and started fragging. Perhaps a loose solder point?

No solder splashes, if there were any, I cleaned them up, no broken traces. I have a gut feeling the real problem is the d0 point. Continous frag no matter what, I soldered and resoldered, even on the top d0 point, and still frag.
With the chip on the pin header, and the 3 wire connecter disconnected, the MSdash loads up. When I connect the 3 wire connecter, frag.

So,

I desoldered pin header and did a wire install (correctly)
The mod lights up, no frag, MSdash loads up and I get error 5. (without 3 wire connector connected)

(Note: I'm going to connect the 3 wire connecter for an update)

The harddrive is unlocked, but I cant lock it becuase I can't load a bios, I tried both banks, no luck.

Error 5 still.

Is there anyway to lock a harddrive without a modchip, and how do I get rid of the cromwell bios (online it says you need some update CD,...vague)

Any help would be hot.

A programmer, damn, I was afraid of that.
Gotta open up the wallet again.

Update from previous post, I connected the 3 wire connecter, and frag.

Does fragging mean that the d0 point was correctly soldered or connected?

If so, then why am I getting fragged by something that is done correct?

I tried soldering the d0 point a million times now, but I must say the one thing I haven't done is check with a meter to see if there is any power coming through it.

I can't figure out what the problem is, frag no matter what with the d0 point.

No solder splashes or broken traces as I've said earlier, what could be the problem?

Any thoughts would be generous.

A bad D0 won't cause a frag. All it does is tell the Xbox to boot from the LPC bus instead of the onboard bios. Sounds like your D0 is working properly, and either your install is bad or your switches are. There is a link in my sig that tells you how to test the switches. Before you even worry about your bios, you need to get your chip working.

Thanks for the heads up Fantmx, makes me want to go back to the drawing board.

I'll organize some more experiments, plus check the LPC with the multimeter and I'll be back with an update.

Peace

Update:

Removed wire install, and put in a universal solderless adapter instead, connected the d0 point, and frag.

LPC connections good.

Can a bad bios cause frag?

Also, what exactly is hot swapping? And what do I need to do so?

I can get a another mod chip from a friend if it can somehow fix my mod chip.

as with my original post,
u already got to the flashbios screen and flashed so i knew your install was ok... means the wrong bios used, which u had already diagnosed in your own post.

this i confirmed, and the only method is to buy a programmer... there is the hotswap method - if u can get hold of another modded console... but a programmer would be better.

Indeed, progammer seems like the only option, but if someone can explain about hot swapping, its more convenient for me, for there is a friend that has working modded console.

This is my last weekend before 10 classes this summer (suicide, I know) so I don't want to order and wait for a programmer.

Also I've checked the volatage and resistance and the are good values.

So only thing left is that it is a bad bios.

So what, and how is hot swapping done?

Boot the working chip to flashbios. Carefully unplug the working chip and plug yours in. Then flash.
