ANSWERED Wired or QSB?

I have a phat xbox that is capable of RGH, and I have read the tut's many times. I'm pretty good at following directions, as long as it is all there, which I have never had a problem with anything not being there on this site. What I'm struggling on though, is what is the big difference between wired or QSB? I'm under the impression that QSB is easier to update. Can someone help me so I can pick which one to order? thank you.

It's what you preference is
I use wire install that's my preference
People use qsbs for a nice clean looking install and as you say easier to update aswell
If you don't mind can you briefly explain why wire is your preference? Is it just easier to install?

It really comes down to personal preference and skill level. If you are not to good at soldering you can use a QSB to easily solder to the points you need with out interfering with any other points. BUT using just the wires can be cheaper and sometimes I feel like I have better solder joints with just wires.

Have you soldered before or used a QSB?

I just sorted a big issue on my Phat that was down to QSB's. The Xbox would boot only when it wanted even though multimeter readings showed I had good continuity over the QSB. As soon as i removed the QSB everything worked perfectly. Any installs I do in future will be direct wires only as the QSB's have caused some problems that would have been easily avoided with a direct wire install. When first embarking on my RGH I was adamant that I was going to use the QSB for ease, hindsight tells me its direct wires every time now.

One reason for choosing direct wires is that its very easy to screw up the STDBY_CLK point. This will cause no end of nause if you do. Experience now tells me to not use the main STDBY_CLK point but the alternative on the back of the board. Its safer and easier.

Hope that helps you decide

The only time i've soldered before was modding some controllers. All of them still work so I assume I did a decent job, but some parts were pretty sloppy.

I personally prefer QSB's, but that's because I find it a lot easier to solder one of those in and connect my NAND-X than trying to do the pin headers.

The only point that COULD be a problem with QSB's is the STBY-CLK near the HANA. First install I did had problems with that, but I sorted it out and the console has been running fine since. Second install went a lot smoother since I learnt from my minor error.

This is exactly what happened to me when i first rgh my flacon and as soon as i removed the qsb everything worked great.

look it is nuffin to do with the qsb.

it is down to how you solder.

end of.
Agree 100%. I had a problem with the QSB install, but also had some problems with the board itself. I'm not sure what the underlying problem is, but as a soldering novice, I'm going to try direct, especially with the tricky points!

i think wired is more easier but on the other hand if you solder the qsbs no need to remove and easy to get too :)

I am pretty new at soldering myslef. I managed to mod 5 controllers sucsefully, so I know I can do it but some of them weren't too pretty. I'm going to go with direct wires when I get around to doing it.
