I'm looking for a good broadband (DSL) wireless router, to run 3 comps, and 1 xbox. However, 2 of the PC's are in a basement. Wooden floor. I have never bought any wireless networking or wireless routers before, so I have absolutely no idea how well they transmit through wood/walls/floors.

I've seen articles on range extenders. I even saw an old episode on "The Screen Savers before G4 took it), that certain models you can over boost the power.

Like I said, I'm dumb on the whole wireless router stuff, so any help would be nice on a good "strong signal" router that can penetrate a floor to the basement. price range $75-$200 Plus connections

I just don't want to hard wire a network, and ugly up my house if you know what I mean.

The Netgear DG834G is great at what it does stock, but go for the Linksys WRT54G is your interested in hacking it :)

You want 802.11g right?

Buffalo AirStation G54 has good wireless range and you can add an external attenna of any size and power to it. Next is the Linksys WRT54G Wireless B/G decent range but I would recommend getting the antenna upgrade for it though. Both units have 4 wired ports along with Wan port.

Yes, the 802.11g .

My biggest concern is the ability to be able to get a signal to my basement. Maybe, like another poster said, a well place range extender may do the trick. I just don't want to ugly up the place hard wiring, and drilling holes running wires.

DSL company I am about to work with, will not do anything with a wireless system. They only setup and support their own non wireless router.

My Buffalo AirStation G54 goes through a brick wall fine with very little loss of signal, and thats without the external antenna. It has far better range than my Linksys WRT54G I use at home.

Worse case scenrio you can add a range extender but doubt you would need it if you are only passing through one (wood) floor.

here
i got a WRT54G and its located in the basement in my house, my house has 2 stories (and obviously a basement) and i get great reception in the basement and the 1st floor. on the second floor I get 3 outta 5 bars, so its still acceptable. I even get reception outside my house. Also a great feature about the WRT54G is that you can upload your own software onto it. Xlink Kai actually has a thirdpart firmware that will run the Kai engine on your router, if you use XBMC you can play online with out really the need of a PC

I was browsing the Buffalo web page, looking at the different models. I came up with 3 that look similar

WZR-HP-G54
WZR-RS-G54
WBR2-G54S

I assume you are using the HP-G54 , high power one for that kind of transmission power ? If it does what it says, and you say it does, that looks like a good one.
