Philips/BenQ VAD6038 Firmware Tutorial :
http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/tutorial/vad6038_tutorial.pdf

I was looking at the tutorial on how to read and wright the firmware to the BenQ drive. It said I needed the following :

- soldering iron + tin
- thin wire (0,08mm to reconnect the trace)
- scalpel or x-acto knife (to cut the trace)
- switch (or use wires only)

Now my question is, do I need the switch? or can I just solder 1 wire to the 2 traces?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you will need 2 wires to simulate a switch like off and On.

Have them touch to connect and dont have them touch to disconnect same way a switch would work.

Ok, now when I put the Xbox 360 back together do I have to have the switch "on" or "off"? Same with the wires do they need to be "connected" or "disconnected"?

By disconnected do you mean taking the wires off completely? Or just them not touching?

If you mean taking them off completely, is there another way

so that I can just keep the switch on the drive and not

have to remove and re-solder the switch every time. Because if

thats what you have to do it does not sound very safe for the

drive when your having to constantly remove and re-solder the

switch to read and wright the firmware.

OK, thank you for your response.
Just to confirm lol as you can tell I am really parinoied about messing with this drive.

So I can leave the switch soldered to the BenQ, and all I have to do is turn the switch off and I can put it back together and use it with the switch still soldered to the drive? Is this correct?

OK I was curious about this myself so I asked caster420 since he played a big part in developing and testing this method. Below is his response:

caster420 said:
<caster420> well, people have been leaving it in i guess and it works fine

<caster420> but the flash isn't getting the correct amount of voltage, but it still functions properly

<caster420> what the longterm effects on the flash are, i don't know
