Bad news if you were looking forward to returning to the world of Wolfenstein by the end of this year, as Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines has admitted that the upcoming shooter has fallen victim to delays pushing the release back into 2014. In the interview conducted by Polygon ahead of this weekend's Quakecon festivities, Hines cited that simultaneous development for both the current generation and next generation consoles is just one of the factors which led to the delay: "The fact that the next-gen stuff is still moving is also definitely a factor. But the most important thing was definitely just looking where it was at, what they needed to polish."Hines also talked up how the new game aims to have more depth than just being a straight point-to-point shooter, claiming: "It's not just like we're making a shooter, where if the shooting is good, then all 16 hours of the game will be good because it's all we're doing."

"We didn't just want to do a one-note Wolfenstein game, we wanted to make something that brought in all these elements, and as it turns out, the polish time you spend on the shooting stuff has no impact on what it feels like in the stealth part."
MachineGames, the developer of the new entry in the occult first person series has already been working on the title for "a while" but Hines states that the extended development time will be a necessary evil: "You don't want to waste all that time and effort for the sake of a couple of months, if a couple of months could make all of the difference in the world. This needs to be the best Wolfenstein game ever made, and you can't shortcut that"
What say you? Are you disappointed in the delay or are you willing to wait if it means a more complex, nuanced game? Give us a shout in the comments.
