wondering about the dvd-rom

do i need to have a dvd-rom drive attached for the X3 to work? im thinking about doing a smaller box to take to friends houses that would not have the dvd-rom in it just board, power, 2 controllers ports (not 4) and like 300gb or 400gb hard drive... please help me out. also could i use the X2.3Lite or X2.6CE instead of the X3. just wondering if either BIOS will work X2 4983 or X3 1959.....

Seems probable has often checked the x3 when installing it without the dvd and seems to work fine. But to be honest the best way to check is.... yep you guessed it try it!! what sort of sixe case were you looking at since you're only gonna cut out the dvd . What about mounting another HD in the space where the DVD was so you can have two cheaper HDs rather then and expensive one?

There is a post over at XBOX100 that had a guy make a lan box, no drive and had taken about 2" off of the length. Unfortunatly their site is down for the moment but you should all make a note to check it out when you have the chance, will be up in the next couple days
