I installed the Xectuer 3 chip I recieved. All the points were inspected and things seemed to be going ok. I had only a few screws in the mobo to keep from going anywhere and everything else was loose. I powered the xbox up and the chip worked fine. I proceeded to install a dashboard and things were working great. So I put in the rest of the screws, put the CDrom down and harddrive. After getting all the screws back in and putting it completely back together I went to power it on. The modchip now gets the blue power led to come on (on the actual chip), but there are no lights on the switch at all and the xbox boots up into the msDash. I cannot for the life of me figure it out. It was all working fine until i tried to screw eveything back in.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you knocked something loose when you put it together, from your post it sounds like you only have one led on the chip there should be two leds on your chip lite.

ok, so here is the newest one that I have no idea about. So i posted this orignal message and that was the state of things. I took the xbox apart and changed nothing and plugged it back in. Now it turns on, then off, then on, and then off, and then on for a few seconds longer than the two and then off again. Anyone have any clue as to what the hell this is?

Sounds like a frag if the lights around the eject button are turning red and green along with it turning on and off. you probly have some looose pins on the pinheader. also i would look at the x3 chip itself and see if you have any burnt traces, some people have reported shorting the chip after putting it back together.

can you boot with the chip disabled(long press on the power button) if you can there is probly nothing wrong with your board.

Ok, so here is the update. I plugged everything i could from the chip (minus wires that were soldered i kept those) but all orginal connections were put back with the soldered wires making no connection. I got the xbox to start up back to the normal dash (thank god). Now, i plugged back in the mod chip and only one led is coming on (the one on the oppisite side of the 5v alt. connt.). There is no visible damage anywhere that i can see on the chip and it worked last night long enough for me to play a few game and load a bunch of software. I did notice that a couple of pins were sticking through the back of the sticky pad. could this have possibly hit the bottom of the DVD rom and fried the chip?

Thanks for all the help again

here is a link to the pinouts http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19148 . i would make sure the pins you said are poking out are not moving and resolder if nessicary then make sure they are covered. any time there is something uncovered it could short but i would try to get the leds on and work from there if you dont see any damage to the modchip.

i kinda had a similar problem to this. it turns out that the connector with a bunch of wires that connects to the external switch had like 1 or 2 bent pins and they were shorted together. i didnt have any tweezers small enuff to straighten them out so i just broke the plastic from the top of the connector and straightened it out that way. also, the pins that u think were hitting the dvd drive and that prolly fried the chip, i dont think thats possible since, if anything, the drive case is prolly grounded.

Try this it was happening to me as well. Put the hard drive all the way done and not the cdrom if it works then try the cdrom. If all works then put the screws in then you will narrow it down taht way. If you are putting the screws in and it frags then the screws are shorting something out.
